At this FREE taster drama session you will get to play games, chat to our existing members, and find out just how amazing and life changing it can be to ! You’ll also get to see and hear of some of our previous work… and imagine yourself in our next big shows! You don’t need to bring anything other than yourself!
The workshop will take place at the Wolfe Tone & District Community Centre from 2pm to 4pm.

Dementia is one of the core themes of our play, 'A Life Unpacked'. We want to make sure we get it right...
Through The Alzheimer Society of Ireland some of our members got the opportunity to chat with Frank and Gerry, two representatives of the Irish Dementia Working Group, about their experiences, and about our play!
It was a beautiful experience for everyone involved...
And now we know, more than ever, that our play handles this theme with sensitivity and care.
Thank you so much to Saoirse from the Alzheimer Society of Ireland for helping us get this meeting going!

An elderly man's possessions are packed into box after box. It's for the best. He can no longer stay in that big house by himself, can he? As his descendants slowly dismantle and squabble over his belongings, the old man walks through his home for the last time. Memories of his life are unearthed. Some he would rather forget forever and others he’ll do anything to keep. He tries to hold onto the fragmented pieces of his life, before they’re encased in cardboard and stuffed in some forgotten attic...
After their incredible performances of The Heights by Lisa McGee in National Theatre Connections 2023, Bray’s youth theatre returns to the stage with a dynamic and heartfelt play about memory; how it holds us together and at times pulls us to pieces.
This production is sponsored by Centra Vevay Road.
Mr Sands Youth Theatre is supported by the Arts Council, Wicklow Arts Office, and the KWETB, and is a proud affiliate of Youth Theatre Ireland.

Our Story
MISTER SANDS YOUTH THEATRE was founded in 2016 in Bray, Co. Wicklow by Actor / Drama Teacher, Emer Casey.
THE GROUP got off to a powerful start with its production of "Too Fast" by Douglas Maxwell in the Mermaid Theatre early in 2017. It swept the boards at the Bray One Act Festival, winning all the awards in the Youth Section - Best Production, Best Actor, Best Actress, an achievement mirrored in 2020 when they performed “Ceasefire Babies” by Fiona Doyle..
MR. SANDS YT has taken part each year in Connections, a festival of youth drama run by the National Theatre in London, which sees youth theatres throughout Britain and Ireland produce and perform a series of new plays written by established writers. Productions so far include - “The Changing Room” by Chris Bush (2018), “Flesh” by Rob Drummond (2019) and “The It” by Vivienne Franzmann (2020) with packed out performances taking place in MR. SANDS' local theatre, The Mermaid, and also The Lyric Theatre in Belfast. The group also received Arts Council funding to produce the much-praised short film, “Upon the shore”, which has since gone on to form the basis of a Su***de Awareness workshop series for secondary schools.
OUR AIM AT MR. SANDS YT is to develop a strong, skilled ensemble of young people with a hunger to learn a wide range of performance and production skills and a burning passion for presenting their work - be it plays, short films or devised pieces - to a wide audience.
MR SANDS YT operates an open-door policy and welcomes second level students from First Year upwards.
OUR WEEKLY WORKSHOPS COVER A WIDE RANGE OF ACTIVITIES including:
-theatre games
- warm-ups
- team-building exercises
- improvisation
- story-telling
- role-play
- devising for stage & film
- script-reading
- voice-work
MR. SANDS is also a place where friendships are forged and craic is had by the bucket-load. Our pizza sessions are legendary and we love an outing to the theatre!
