We produce top quality Angus and Hereford beef for sale directly to consumers!
We are hosting a "Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser" for our children's school at home on the farm. It will be a great day out with loads to do. The price is all inclusive with tea, coffee, sweet treats, treasure hunt, photo booth, facepainting, and of course, your pumkin to take home and carve. You'll also have chance to meet some of the animals on the farm, ponies, chickens and cattle and the little and not so little farmers in your life can have a look at some of vintage and new machinery on the farm. Tickets can be booked on eventbrite. The link is

Grazing with a difference. This time if year the chicory in our mixed species grazing naturally wants to flower especially if it has a longer rest period between grazings. We're really happy with this way of grazing cattle and have put in more of it this year. It let's us cut our fertiliser use and research is showing more productive cattle with a more diverse diet.
Harvest time, in between the showers. It hasnt been easy but we are getting there now. Grain and straw for winter feed, it's always a great feeling to see it in the shed. Quality feed for quality beef. # harvesttime
Most common question this week ......
Q: What do you have growing beside the lane? A: It's a mix of peas and wheat.
The peas are just starting to flower and they're looking lovely. After a slowish start with wet and cold weather they are loving the sunshine and look to be doing a great job feeding the wheat. The wheat ear is still deep down inside the plant but will emerge over the next 3 weeks. This is all a bit of an experiment the goal will be.
Quality of feed -we want to produce. A balanced feed with the wheat to supply eenergy and the peas supplying protein.
Reduced inputs - the peas are fixing nitrogen from the atmosphere so less Fertiliser is needed for this crop and the next. We are doing a bit of a trial with reduced fungicides, the crop has git no insecticide.
Benefit to pollinators - A glowering crop like this bring more food for pollinators and more diversity into the environment.
Hopefully it all works out, it's looking good today anyway.
Apparently I'm big in Germany 😁, this is a short video we did for Bord Bia to explain Irish grass fed beef to customers. The full version is on our website www.clonakiltybeef.ie

Today's job, fencing off grassland strips beside a stream and a small river on the farm, these will be let grow during the summer and will provide a high value habitat for wildlife and act as a very effective buffer to filter surface water.
This is part of the ACRES programme run by the Department of Agriculture, yes we are being paid to do this, but so we should be, this work doesn't happen for free and these areas are out of production for 5 years as part of the programme.
Farmers can and will do more for the environment, but we need to earn a living while doing it. That can be premium prices for higher standards or payment for additional work. If change is needed we need more well funded programmes that farmers can believe in.

What more could you ask for? 🤣
I dont know if there is a more satisfying sight in farming. It is my favourite time of year, fresh beginnings with new growth everywhere. Crops are late being sown this year because of the very very wet spring but now that they're in we need them to make up for lost time and push on .... so no more cold wet weather please! 🙏
Monday was as cold a morning as I remember, the frost was something else and with the help of a blowtorch the yard still had running water, our house less so. So yes the moral of the story is we take better care of the animals than ourselves!😂
Fun Frosty Morning Fact.
Cattle eat more when the weather is cold! There's a fact you didn't think you needed to know. All is well on the farm, we still have running water and the yard isn't too slippy, so far so good I will put up a post later going through our new boxes and what great Christmas presents they are. If you just can't wait head on over to our website to have a look ( link in bio)
Delighted to be back at Bandon Grammar School for the launch of their cookbook, and also the launch of our new boxes, smaller in size but the same great flavour and still the same great price/kg. Great to meet so many people tonight and tell our story.
New arrival here over the summer. From a farming point of view .... not very useful, but he seems to be making some people very happy!
