MURPHY'S, THE QUIET IRISH STOUT
Guinness is known all over the world and the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin continues to be the most popular tourist attraction in Ireland. But there's a more modest, Cork-based stout called Murphy's Irish Stout and while Guinness undoubtedly dominates the stout world, Murphy’s chugs quietly along in its shadow, except in Cork that it. It's actually quite hard to find elsewhere although, having said that, this photograph was taken at the Inn-Between Bar in Beaufort Village, County Kerry. 😄
Murphy's brewery was founded in Cork in 1856 by James Jeremiah Murphy, a well-known philanthropist of his time. JJ and his brothers wanted to brew a stout less bitter than Guinness, and they succeeded! There's a rich roastiness to it that's often compared to chocolate milk. So if you've tried Guinness and found it too bitter, be sure to try a pint of Murphy's next time you're in Cork... or Kerry. 😉
Sláinte!

Happy New Year, Wishing you & yours the Very Best. From All at The Tower Bar. 🥂
Wishing One & All a Very Happy Christmas 🎄 & a Peaceful New Year.
After dealing with Sky for over twenty years, I cancelled with them, due to the cost of their service, which I'm unable to justify in these times, effective from today December 19th 2021. I paid this by direct debit. Sky issued me with a credit note for €39.01, which is only on their system and not in my bank and turned off the signal just before lunch today. I phoned them and they refused to switch it back on even though its paid for as there is a credit note.
On the plus side we will be reopening on Monday July 26th, it is either that or waiting until September, possibly October. Having closed on March 15th last year & been only open for sixteen days in the autumn, its been a long journey in a world where the goal-posts keep changing.
Returning to work & having a purpose is so important for mind & body.
Providing a safe social outlet for our valued customers is paramount.
The negative of course is the legal framework that the government have set, where the unvaccinated will not be able to part-take in indoor hospitality.
I feel for those who have decided not to vaccinate or those still waiting on their vaccine.
This virus looks like it will be with us for months if not years, so I don't foresee any ideal solutions for society to get back to pre-covid norms.
We will be open from 3pm Monday 26th July.
The Countdown is on. We will be reopening as soon as Goverment allows. Looking forward to meeting everyone real soon.
Wishing everyone in outdoor hospitality the very best today. Looking forward to joining you on July 5th.
Looking forward to getting back. Having an opening date is such a relief ☺. Roll on July 5th. 🍻🥂🍻
Pubs to reopen indoors on Monday 5th July - VFI statement - VFI Pubs The Vintners’ Federation of Ireland (VFI) has welcomed the announcement that pubs can reopen indoors from the first week of July but is urging the Government to bring forward the opening date by just four days to allow their members trade for an extra weekend.
