Hi everyone,
Over the next three weeks, the museum will host really interesting evenings based around living history demonstrations, displays and talks looking at different periods of Cork's past. This is part of our 'Nights at the Museum' series that has been funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media
These events run on Thursdays September 21st, 28th and October 5th and will be held at the museum from 5 - 9pm. These events do not require booking and are suitable for all.
We look forward to seeing you then.
Congratulations to our MA Museum Studies student Cassady Calder who recently won an Award of Distinction in the Society of Automotive Historians Scharchburg Student Paper Award for her paper 'Community Representation in Corporate Automotive Museums'.
Congratulations to our Museum Studies PhD student Shauna Allen on the publication of her article "Nano Nagle Place — Diversity Academy: a case study in social justice" which has appeared in the latest edition of Museum Ireland, seehttps://www.irishmuseums.org/uploads/downloads/publications/Museum-Ireland-Vol-29_Web.pdf
Looking for some museum reading over the weekend?
Our Museums Ireland journal (Vol 29) was launched for and is freely accessible; containing articles that range from how museums contribute to climate research, to practical information on tech equipment for digital engagement.
Many thanks to journal editor Dr B. Widdis, Wendy Williams Design and - of course - most particularly to all the authors for their contributions.

A pleasure to work with Cork Public Museum on our MA Museum Studies exhibition
Congratulations to our MA Museum Studies 2023 class on the launch of their exhibition 'Cork and the Roman World' at Cork Public Museum last evening. They now start their second work placement in museums across Europe and the US. Wishing all the best of luck with the next stage of your postgraduate journey
The shrine fragment on display originally made up the ridge mount of a house-shaped shrine. It is thought that these types of shrines were used to hold relics once belonging to saints or martyrs. The fragment is decorated with an interlacing pattern inspired by late Roman art.

Meet Paula Moreno, Member of Marketing and Promotional Team! Contributor to the Collecting Rome and Neo-Classical Architecture panels. I am super excited for visitors to come and learn more about the connection between Cork and the Roman World. She is also excited for visitors to see all of the panels such as Collecting Rome, where the Cork Antiquarian Thomas Tobin is featured, who, interestingly enough, held in his collection some coins that are on display.
