Such a powerful poem and so so true!

One leaf can disrupt a whole army of ants
And can leave them all scared and confused
And it takes just one word, even one from a stranger
To render our self-esteem bruised

It takes just one flick of a switch in a light room
To promptly turn everything black
And it only takes one hand to push us too far
Just one straw to break our camel’s back

It takes just a moment when all is aligned
For the sunshine to blot out the moon
And it takes just one foot to kick us whilst we’re down
Just one sprinkle of salt in the wound

And yet when we think of ourselves as the one
Then we think we’ve no power at all
That we won’t make a difference when this world’s so big
And we feel so incredibly small

But it takes just one leaf to announce spring is coming
One seed for a flower to grow
And it takes just one hand to stop someone from falling
Which might mean far more than you know

It takes just a word to make somebody’s day
Just one switch to turn dark into light
And it takes just one foot to stand up for someone,
Just one sunrise to soften the night

So harness the power of one for yourself
It’s a power you’ve held all along
Yes, I know that you think you can’t change the whole world
But you can change the world for someone

Fly high Kay 🦅

No doubt Michael will be on your shoulder to guide you through a safe flight and a soft landing 🙏🤗 😇

🌟 Courage Knows No Age! 🌟

We are so proud of Kay, who at 92 years old is skydiving (yes, that's right, jumping out of a plane!) to raise funds for Youth Su***de Prevention Ireland in their "Skydive For Life" challenge. Kay will be performing this miraculous feat on the 20th July in memory of her beloved son, Michael, who tragically passed away from su***de 37 years ago, on the same date.

You can contribute to YSPI by donating to Kay's GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/mrmv3d-youth-su***de-prevention-ireland. Every little helps in the fight against su***de and supports those in need.

AND... as a sweet little bonus, If this post gets 100 likes, Kay has promised to bake us her renowned apple tart which we may or may not share with a select few patients! 🍎🥧

Join us by liking/sharing this post, cheering her on, and donating to this important cause.

So happy to stocking Global Organic Textile Standard - GOTS

GOTS receives top sustainability scores from the German government!

In May, the German government released the new “Guidelines for sustainable textile procurement by the Federal Administration” that strengthen responsible procurement by defining rigorous social and environmental criteria.

The guidelines refer to internationally recognised standards, such as GOTS, as a preferred means to prove compliance with the required social and environmental criteria. The document scores sustainability performance of known labels, highlighting GOTS as a top standard for organic textiles. We are especially proud of such strong results in sustainability ranking, that award GOTS’s continuous efforts in developing a more sustainable and ethical textile industry.

The document, binding on federal institutions, is also intended for use by states, municipalities and other procurement actors, providing a non-mandatory, yet practical tool for improving procurement practices. The guidelines’ definition of sustainability encompasses environmental and social requirements to be mandatorily met all along textile production: raw materials extraction, manufacturing and product sale. Social criteria aim to protect the health and safety of employees in fibre production, with strong focus on eradication of child and forced labour. Additionally, the guidelines firmly foster the use of cotton from controlled organic cultivation.

In textile processing, the guidelines require several measures to tackle negative impacts on human rights and support environmentally friendly practices for natural resources consumption. The end product considerations ban the use of harmful chemicals.

20% OFF throughout the Summer!! 🎉 🎉 🎉
Here’s why……

The month of May marks my 22nd year in Fashion, exactly one third of my life to date and it is now time to step aside and move on to pastures new!

Always curious about where and how brands sourced their labels and following the Rana Plaza Disaster,
I became increasingly aware that behind the glamorous world of Fashion lay a murkier world of child labour, slavery and exploitation!

This brought me on a journey of sourcing certified sustainable clothing which is both kind to people and planet at all stages of production and throughout its life cycle!

And so Stella Boutique was born and it is fair to say, the past 8 years have been the most rewarding of my fashion career and I truly wish I had discovered these wonderful brands and the people behind them sooner!

I am very proud of what I’ve achieved in that short time, having been Highly Commended in the Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce Business Awards in 2021 and going on to being the overall winner in that category in 2023!

I truly believe that Sustainable Boutiques should be the norm rather than the exception and in time I am hopeful that will be the case.

When I go away on shopping trips I come back buzzing and full of awe at all the innovative fabrics and recycled products out there and I often wish I was 20 years younger and had the energy to grow the Stella Brand in every corner of Ireland!

The reality is I’m not!!
Therefore, I have come to the decision to step back, not because I don’t love what I do but there are so many aspects to my personal life that have often been neglected whilst I pursued my passion!

Long story short, I plan to exit the business by the Autumn but do sincerely hope to hand over the baton to another likeminded entrepreneur who will take it to the next level and beyond.

In the meanwhile, I will be offering 20% OFF throughout the Summer or while stocks last

With gratitude,
Stella

Ps Please feel free to tag and share and if you know that person to step in where I leave off, just point them in my direction 😊

22/04/2024

This is World Earth Day 2024 and here is some interesting information to ponder and perhaps work on!

Today is 🌍 but how does it relate to fashion? 👗

From production to consumption and disposal, our clothes have a big environmental impact. This year’s Earth Day theme, Plastic versus Planet, calls for an end to throwaway fashion and shines a spotlight on the fashion industry’s pervasive relationship with fossil fuels 🛢️

Fossil fuels are used to create plastic, including plastic-based fibres such as polyester. These plastic fibres are versatile and durable, but their environmental impact is devastating; polyester production accounts for up to 40% of fashion’s carbon emissions (Bloomberg, 2022), the fabric releases micro-plastics into our ecosystem and the clothes are destined to rot in toxic landfills.

But fossil fuels are not just found in the final product, they are fuelling every step of the supply chain. It can be easy to dismiss synthetic fibres as the problem but the truth is fossil fuels are used in the production of natural fibres too; from growing the raw materials to dyeing and finishing the fabric. Only a significant reduction in production volumes and an urgent transition away from fossil fuels will curb fashion’s climate impact 🏭

Take action! Ask brands 🔍

Send an email, write a DM or leave a comment on social media to demand more transparency from brands about the environmental impact of our clothes 🌱

A very powerful message!

It’s time to think global & act local 🌎👫

With so many important issues and problems facing the global fashion industry, figuring out where to start can be overwhelming. We often find that action starts within your local community. Even the smallest acts, like having a conversation with your friends about sustainable fashion, can have a big impact.

Our shared vision for a better fashion industry is strengthened by every small act. The more we take small actions to create change, the sooner we transform the fashion industry for good!
