Trolly-The Heroic Battle of Lugh By Karl Quinn with Ciarán Taylor - Glenscentre 25/01/2023

'Trolley-The Heroic Battle of Lugh', Carpet Theatre's new play by Karl Quinn with Ciaran Taylor, music by Jack Cawley, previews Sat 4th February. Supported by The Glens Centre, funded by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíonl Lighting by Felipe Joia
Trolley is the name given to a man who spends every day, rain, hail or snow trawling a rich suburb, gathering and sorting rubbish into his supermarket trolley. Without a home, he finds refuge in childhood tales from Irish Mythology, and the great warrior Lugh of the Tuatha Dé Danann

Tormented by the demons of his past, he is condemned by fate to an endless routine of seemingly pointless work. It is his struggle for order and meaning, and like Lugh's battle with Balor, to resolve a troubled family legacy -to fight his father.

Trolley disturbs the local residents routine, and forces a young man who watches from a window to question his own certainties, and how we get caught in inescapable patterns. Irish mythology is full of confusion and plots with no endings. Actor Karl Quinn uses Trolley's precious rubbish to bring its heroes and monsters to life, accompanied with live music by Jack Cawley, as he battles to joyfully make sense of our half remembered stories.

Breath is a music play with rock fiddler Steve Wickham of The Waterboys, who joins actor Karl Quinn to playfully explore our recent experiences. This energetic, humourous and sensitive show returns to the stage after full houses at Festival in July and a successful national tour in the dark days of January this year.
We have all been holding our breath, but for one man, the family working and studying at home, is building up the pressure.... along with the waiting, sanitising, news overload, work Zooms gone wrong, botched deliveries, and window visits.... He's trying to hold it together with online yoga, home baking, and dancing in the kitchen... but one sneeze could blow it all apart… Breath is infused with the joy of music, as we catch our breath together, and look back at the things we remember, and the things we’d forgotten about two strange years.
For Breath Steve Wickham combines classical, folk and rock on fiddle, concertina, and didgeridoo -played like never before! He previously worked with director Ciarán Taylor and Carpet Theatre actor Karl Quinn on Pigeon, and Wexford Firestation Tour. Lighting by Felipe Joia
