Jason Mehlhorn Film
Updates, information and some exclusive content from Irish filmmaker Jason Mehlhorn.
Passing (Focus Ireland Film)
This is a film I done for Focus Ireland last month to rise money and awareness for a homeless charity. About €4,000 was raised. The criteria was it had to be 1 minute long and on 'an artist’s representation of homelessness in Ireland'. As it was for a visual art's event this is a non-narrative conceptual piece.
In this work a disconnection between society and homeless people is represented by contrasting a static gaze at the ground where eyes will never meet and a bustling city that flows by in ignorance.
Many thanks to the Ballinamore International Film Festival for awarding 'Ballybough Court' as the festival's Best Short Documentary!
Ballinamore International Film Festival 2011
(Ireland Only) 'Ballybough Court' will be showing at the Ballinamore International Film Festival this Friday (26th August) at 21.00. Many thanks to Ger Boland for selecting it. More info can be found below.
ballinamoreiff.com The Ballinamore International Film Festival, is a two day film event starting for the first time in history this August 2011. The festival, which is self funded welcomes a diverse range of films.
I’ve a new little film being shown as part of a Visual Arts Exhibition this Friday to raise money for the homeless charity Focus Ireland which is obviously busier now than ever. It’ll include work from various artists, photographers, filmmakers and designers. There’s more details below. They’d like to show the short first at the event or maybe online before it but I’ll stick it up here soon thereafter.
(New Zealand only) My short documentary Ballybough Court is showing in Queenstown on 15th of August as part of an Irish film night. Due to the smallish venue and large demand it's by invitation only. My FB insights tell me a couple of you are living in NZ so if you wish to be on the guestlist please email me at [email protected] within the next few days and I'll sort it out.

Rainy Night
In the blog entry below there's the first interview installment I've conducted with my fellow Irish director and friend Mr. Donnacha Coffey. He's shooting two feature films this year with a combined budget of about €2000 and wanted someone of a similar mindset to chat about them from a creative and practical point of view. Hope you enjoy..
twofilms.wordpress.com Sorry I haven’t been great with updating the blog over Christmas, things have been crazy busy here, with work on the films, all the crazy distractions of the season that’s in it, the terrible snow, and then being left without water in our apartment for a week.
The Writing Life and Other Absurdities. Filmmaker in Focus Series - Interview With Jason Mehlhorn
The below blog link contains an interview with myself conducted by Noel Farrell as part of his 'Indie Ireland: Filmmakers in focus' series. It deals with some of my films (notably Ulterior) and some more general questions on filmmaking practices.
The album soundtrack for my film Ulterior has received a full page piece in a fancy new graphic design book on record covers! Photo of book cover and page below. The album design was by Ritxi Ostáriz and music was by Heidi S. Tveitan/Starofash. More info on Ritxi and Heidi can be found in my 'favourite pages' tab. I also believe Heidi has some of these very rare CDs still for sale!
Heidi S. Tveitan / Starofash - New Album 'Lakhesis'
The musician/composer of Ulterior and my friend Heidi S. Tveitan has a new album released today called 'Lakhesis'. I can't really describe the music genre-wise but through the link below you can find three full songs, lots more information, various purchasing options if you are so taken, but if not there's a rather beautiful digital book with some of her Haiku poems and photographs you can download for free!
starofash.com Third album by Starofash / Heidi S. Tveitan. This time with a more tempo and vocal driven recording, but always unmistakably Starofash. It follows the theme with the three Moirae from her debut to a suitable end with Lakhesis, the apportioner of life.
After three days of torment and you-tube tutorials trying to figure out Photoshop I've finally finished the 'Ulterior' DVD cover. Off to the printers now.
Relived to announce that post-production on my debut feature Ulterior has finally finished as of 5 minutes ago! I'll start the elusive film trailer tomorrow and hopefully something will be up in a few days. Anyone curious what 2 years of torment looks like....
Very pleased to announce that 2 weeks after it's quite rapturous premiere Ballybough Court has been nominated in the category of 'best documentary film' at this years Underground Cinema Awards in Dublin next month. Associated with the same organisation it was also selected as part of a roadshow which I believe means it'll be screened in various counties around Ireland over the next year. Thanks to Dave Byrne.
Deleted Scenes from Ballybough Court
Some deleted footage from the documentary 'Ballybough Court'. I’ve written some notes on these clips which can be found in the Notes tab. For anyone who’s seen the finished film the scenes may give further context to some things and for those who haven’t they should give you a little taster.
