We are delighted to be offering RSV immunisation to all babies born in the Rotunda Hospital from 1st September 2024 to 28th February 2025 as part of the national programme. RSV bronchiolitis is well known to parents and causes massive stress and worry when small babies are unwell with it.
This immunisation covers them for their first winter and will significantly reduce the numbers that need admission to hospital and to paediatric intensive care units. As well as reducing the number of parents needing to attend emergency departments or worrying about babies who are snuffly and struggling with feeds at home.
For further information on the RSV immunisation programme please visit https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/rsv/immunisation/

Today is day, is a campaign founded by Dr Kate Granger, a former Consultant Geriatrician who was terminally ill with cancer along with her husband, Chris Pointon. Following Kate's admission to the hospital, she observed how few staff delivering her care introduced themselves by name. She started the campaign on social media to remind us all of the importance of introductions. The campaign promotes trust, empathy and compassionate care from the first interaction. Today, we reinforce our commitment to these values.
Rotunda has purchased numbers 1, 2 & 5 Cavendish Row, located across from our main campus. This is a significant milestone for The Rotunda as it marks our first expansion beyond the Parnell Square campus since 1757.
The Rotunda Building on Cavendish Row will be named The Mosse Building after our founder Bartholomew Mosse. Facing the former gardens of the Lying-In Hospital, this elegant house was built in 1756 by Henry Darley for Dr Bartholomew Mosse.
This strategic move provides additional space and resources to enhance patient care, employee experience and continuous service improvement.

Everyday care for your newborn contributes incredibly to their development. When you respond to your baby's cues by talking, singing or making eye contact, it helps baby recognize sounds, build vocabulary, and develop a sense of connection.

Music and singing are excellent ways of establishing communication and interacting with baby. As babies grow, they use music to communicate, participate and engage with parents and caregivers.
Benefits of using music:
❤️ Singing to babies can help establish and increase eye contact, which helps with bonding.
❤️ Using music can help create a warm relationship between parent and baby.
❤️ Music helps with non-verbal communication and can be an effective way of soothing babies.
❤️ Music improves cognitive abilities and memory.
When using music to communicate with baby, mouth the words clearly, repeat the same song over, and add some movement.

Sharing books with babies right from the start will help them to listen carefully and then begin to talk.
These early experiences will help them to become confident readers and writers as they grow older.
When sharing books with babies, it can be helpful to turn off any background noise such as television or music so that your baby can focus on sharing a book with you.

During pregnancy most women need 3 balanced meals per day with 2-3 healthy snacks between meals.
Each meal should include:
CARBOHYDRATES, our body's and our baby's main energy source. We recommend having about 1/4 to 1/3 of your plate as wholegrain starchy carbohydrate in each meal. Wholegrain options have more vitamins and minerals and the fiber can help to prevent constipation.
PROTEIN is an important nutrient for the growth and development of your baby. Protein-rich foods include meat, fish, chicken, eggs, lentils, beans and nuts. We recommend two servings per day of protein-rich foods in the first half of pregnancy and three servings per day in the second half of pregnancy. If we look at the plate model, about 1/4 of your meal should be protein-rich food. A serving of meat or chicken is about the size of the palm of your hand.
FAT is a good source of energy and is key for development of the brain and nervous system. There are many healthy fats such as plant oils, avocados, nuts & seeds and oily fish that are really important to include during pregnancy.
