🏫 After retiring from teaching, I was eager to find something that would keep me engaged and help me transition into this new phase of life. That's when I discovered the power of volunteering with Oxfam Ireland. 💚

🤝 I wanted an experience that was my own, separate from family and work. And Oxfam Ireland provided just that.

The work itself is fulfilling, and the sense of community is incredible, especially during the festive season. It truly feels like a warm and welcoming home. 🎄❤️

Meet Berfin Akdeniz, a young volunteer from Gaziantep (South-central Turkey)

Berfin was preparing to start her university education, she dreams to become a teacher.

Right now, she is volunteering with Oxfam KEDV at a distribution center in an industrial park on the outskirts of the city.

She busily checks supplies for a local hospital. She helps checking every size of nappy, and baby grows shapes and sizes.

Cars and vans pull up with the drivers loaded with information on where the need is most. This is a true collaboration between civil society, the local municipality the coordinator AFAD.

Oxfam KEDV staff and volunteers are working with other NGOs to help organise items in AFAD distribution centers and facilitate the delivery of this aid to affected populations.

“My family and friends are safe, but for now we need to show solidary with all of those impacted by the earthquake.”
