INTRODUCING - HOMEBOY

Homeboy was founded in 1988 as the world’s third streetwear brand. 30 years ago, streetwear was still original and stood for skatewear. Homeboy’s origins lay in skating, but their hand was already extended towards music when they were founded.

The year 1988 is considered hip-hop’s breakout year. Cult bands like Public Enemy, Run-DMC, NWA and Ice-T shook up the scene not only musically but also fashionably. Homeboy sensitively absorbs the vibes of rap culture and the artists’ mentality and shapes them into fashionable originals. As early as 1989, the label equipped the German hip-hop legend Moses Pelham. In 1991 the Fantastischen Vier joined.

MEET THE TEAM

[Usually Lara writes these, but I thought it’d be more special if someone else wrote it for her so I am here to fill in.
- Jude]

Lara is the store manager of Tribe, but she’s also the mind behind the VM, the witty Instagram posts, the hilarious (and occasionally corny) Tiktoks you see online, and so much more. In a lot of ways, you could say that Lara is the face of Tribe itself!

Lara joined us all the way back in 2019, and since then she has climbed her way up the ranks to become the Head Honcho that we all know and love today. As a loyal and valued member of staff, she brings in a sense of fun and closeness that is felt throughout both shops. She’s basically besties with all of us. At the same time, Lara’s also dedicated and hardworking.

When she’s not in the shops, or interacting with y’all lovely people on here, Lara’s an actress that has already appeared on a few exciting projects, or maybe even on her own Tiktok where you can see more of her antics! The easiest way into her heart would be an açai bowl and a Radiohead vinyl (or all the vinyls).

Robert has been with us for over a year now, his main roles include keeping the Millennials of the shop up to date with Gen Z terms such as "Rizz" or "Skibidi Toilet". He never arrives to work without a smile on his face and is sure to provide customers with the best service! He is a very important part of the team, his responsibilities include:

Providing vibes
Rap connoisseur
Being silly
Talking about his gf

Outside of Tribe, Robert is a talented artist studying in NCAD. He's a lover of music and film, especially the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie which he couldn't believe wasn't directed by Tarantino.

Reminiscing today on how much has changed since we opened our doors in Feb 1992.

Here's some snaps of what our little shop used to look like in the early 2000's, including our larger store some of you might remember. We downsized in 2018 to the shop you know today and survived the pandemic all thanks to our amazing customers, some of which are still shopping with us since the beginning!

🥲 Now we're all nostalgic so thank you for supporting a family owned business for 32 years. Tribe wouldn't be what it is today without all of you! We'll have a nice surprise at the end of the month so stay tuned x
