So grateful to the fabulous Lilian Smith who played "Pure Imagination" this morning on on RTร Radio 1 . (It's definitely edging towards being a Christmas song, I agree ๐๐
). And of course, if anyone's catching the 'Wonka' movie over the weekend, this hopefully gets you in the mood! ๐ซ๐ซ
You can stream "Pure Imagination" now from Spotify, Apple etc in the link below, and feel free to add it to your playlists...Christmas or otherwise ๐:

A huge thanks to George Hamilton on RTร lyric fm who last Sunday kindly played my and Cormac Kenevey's Christmas song, "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?".
Always such a lovely show on a Sunday morning!
You can have a listen at 2 hours 6 minutes in (link in the comments)
Big day tomorrow Fri 8th - the next single from my album lands; it's a cover of the beautiful song, "Pure Imagination". So lovely to tie it in with the release of the movie prequel!
I had a little play around with AI and it generated this cover for me. Definitely captures the whimsy of the story.
More details to follow tomorrow, but you can also make sure to catch the song by following me on Spotify (link below):

Thanks everyone, lots of amazing feedback for the song ๐โค๏ธ.
So people have been asking how to help. I had a think, and any or all of these would be really helpful and would take just a couple of moments of your time, and no money ๐.
1) Add it to your Spotify Christmas playlists, link below (select Spotify) - https://stellabass.hearnow.com
2) Ask friends/family/work if they might do that too ๐
3) Tag/contact/share to your fave radio stations & presenters, wherever you'd like to hear it played (Christmas FM, the fab Marty Whelan, Lyric FM etc...) but wherever is local to you too, not just Ireland. TV? We can do TV! I'm doing all this at my end too but sometimes there's strength in numbers ๐ฅฐ๐ช
4) Your fave influencers on social media...tag 'em in so they'll know about the coolest, classiest Irish Christmas song of 2023 โค๏ธ. Maybe they'll share it, maybe they won't...but sure at least they might get to know about it ๐ถ
Thanks a million folks. The fun part of what I do is making music (10% of the time). The other 90% is calling, emailing, pitching, hearing 'No' most of the time, brushing yourself off from the 'Nos' (that's if you even get a reply!) to go straight in to make the next call. Those who know me know I'm terrible at accepting help ๐ but I gladly will on this occasion if anyone would like to per 1-4 above. I'm really proud of this song, it's a cracker, really timeless, and it features some of the country's best musicians. Now, back to the 90% of my day...โ๏ธ๐จ๐โค๏ธ

Last Sunday week, after weโd finished playing our gig in Searsons, an American gentleman came up to the stage to chat to us. He was on holiday here with his family and told me that heโd drawn a couple of sketches of the band. I was blown away by what he showed me, and he offered to send them on by email, which he kindly did.
It transpires that he โ William Hennessy โ is not only one of the top courtroom sketch artists in the USA, but he has covered some of the most iconic American trials in recent history including recent presidential impeachments, 9/11 hijacker trial, January 6th trials, Gore v Bush etc. My mind was blown, but at the same time, it made sense how he could capture a Sunday evening in Searsons so atmospherically, with such marvellous detail and likeness.
His work is on www.courtroomart.com โ what a privilege for us!

Now, which shots should I pick for the album??? Any suggestions?? ๐ค

I had an idea way back that I wanted to do something quirky for this song video-wise, so after a few false starts, I got in touch with a fabulously talented animator in Pakistan, Maria Choudhry, and we went back and forth early in the summer with ideas and storyboards: all done remotely which was an interesting process.
The likenesses she created for all 5 of us is uncanny; that said, I hounded the guys for photos up-close, side-face, instrument technique etc - lots of back and forth but it was all worth it as I love it, and I hope y'all do too.
On a separate note, get in touch with Maria (details below) if you're looking for any animation work, I would TOTALLY recommend her: https://tinyurl.com/32azkd2r

In return, youโll get an exclusive first look at the AMAZING artwork, which is a still from our epic video, and of course, the full song will drop into your account automatically on the 20th. Spotify shows the song to more people if thereโs a bit of a kerfuffle on release day and pre-saves help massively on that. And sure, letโs see if we can give the olโ Spotify jazz charts a go!! Iโd be so grateful.
It feels like forever since I was in Camden recording the album with Johnny Taylor, Barry Donohue, Dominic Mullan and Michael Buckleyโฆ.and the day is FINALLY almost here where we can share the first song (thereโs 9 more on the album, and donโt forget our big launch gig on Sat 3rd Feb in the Sugar Club). Btw, itโs also available on all other streaming platforms.
But for now, enjoy the sneak peek in the video, and letโs hope this song is indeed, the start of something big! Xx
This is a version of the classic Bonnie Raitt song, "I Can't Make You Love Me" which I recorded a few years back with the maestro Yann O'Brien. I was lucky to see Bonnie perform a few years back in the Olympia, a phenomenal gig. Interestingly, apparently the songwriters originally envisioned this song as an uptempo country/bluegrass number, but I think it's hard to hear it now as anything other than a ballad!
We were recording at 9am that morning and, going for the extra 15 minutes in bed rather than making any effort with my hairdryer, my hair was blowdried by my car heater on full blast for about 30 minutes and I think I gave any kind of decent makeup a hard pass. ๐๐
If you'd like to hear the full version, it's over on my YouTube:

Bonnie Raitt
Ohhh the excitement is only OFF THE CHARTS!! ๐
Something is indeed coming, specifically the first single from the new album, which will be dropping on Fri 20th October. I think you'll love the song as much as I do, and let me tell you, the video is SPECTACULAR.
Spotify pre-save deets on the way but I couldn't wait any longer.
Michael Buckley is joining myself, Johnny, Barry and Dom on this first song, and the album was engineered by the whizz that is Conor Brady, in Camden Recording Studios, Dublin.
Iโve been heavily invested in the recent successes of TJ Mack, long-time popstar and Broadway stalwart. Having recently observed the stratospheric success of his โSittingโ song last week and with another epic bop โInsideโ having dropped only yesterday, produced by the brilliant , I thought Iโd delve into his back catalogue, where his epic acapella video โSplashingโ โ which feels like a song Jean Valjean may have sung had there been a Les Mis prequel โ spoke to me ๐. So, from scratch, I had a go at giving it a โclassic showtuneโ arrangementโฆmaybe a little bit Menken, a little bit Schwartz, but definitely a lot of fun! (Poster PDFs are for added authenticity).
Word on the street is that Lin-Manuel Miranda is looking nervously over his shoulder at the musical colossus that is Mack, his manager wife (โwipeโ) and his savvy business associate Brian Jordan Alvarez (), especially considering this weekโs interviews with Time, Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone.
Seriously though, this is been pure fun to watch develop, and easy to dip into the joy and wholesomeness of it all. ๐ฅฐCheck out the brilliant characters, and their meticulously-crafted backstories โ including TJ Mack โ created by the fabulous
13m
So, Iโm only DELIGHTED to let you finally know the name of the new album!
๐ LOOK FOR THE SILVER LINING ๐
Yes, itโs the Jerome Kern song, yes we have a gorgeous new version on the album, AND YES ITโS THE SONG REFERENCED IN THE MOST ICONIC SCENE EVER IN DOWNTOWN ABBEY WHICH I BINGED ON FROM THE START WHEN STRUCK DOWN WITH โFLU LAST YEAR AND ALSO HOW WAS I TEN YEARS LATE TO WATCHING DOWNTON ABBEYโฆand ok Iโm calm again.
All 10 songs on the album โ 8 jazz standards and 2 originals I co-wrote โ touch on different things that happened to me or to friends or to colleagues during the pandemic โ good, bad and somewhere in-between, and something about this little-known Kern song stuck with me. Not just the Downton Abbey swoonfest โ and a swoonfest it was โ but also a nod to the strength of the human spirit.
Hope to see you at the launch gig!
