Today is the 8th anniversary of Louis Stewart's passing - I don't know where the time has gone. Anyway this is a piece I wrote some years ago as a tribute to the great guitarist.

50 years ago - 1974, I played with the band Time Machine. On Saturday August 17th we are going to play in the Teacher's Club 36 Parnell Sq. D1. The 4 of us met up some months ago and decided we'd love to play together again - so this is it. All proceeds go to AADI - Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland. The entrance fee is 10 euro and it is an 8 to11.30 gig of music from the 60s and 70s. It is basically a 'party / dance night and places are limited, so please let me know if you wish to attend and I will put your name on the guest list.

There is very little know about the life of Johann Paul Von Westhoff, but I only found out today, that April 17th is the anniversary of his passing - which was in 1705. This is the Sarabande from his Suite in Dm and makes a fitting tribute.

Here's a piece of Bach that is both beautiful and sad. It is the Prelude from his Cello Suite no. 2 which was probably written in the summer of 1720. In May of that year Bach accompanied Prince Leopold of Kothen to the spa at Carlsbad in Bohemia with other members of the Prince's orchestra. Upon their return in July, Bach learned that his wife Maria Barbara had died and had been buried on July 7th in his absence. Many of his works were written in the face of tragedy and as he was deeply religious he appears to have coped with his grief by composing.

Today is J. S. Bach's birthday so I decided to share this tribute with you all. Bach was actually born on March 21th 1685, but Germany was still using the old Julian calendar at that time and did not change to the Gregorian system until 1700. However, if we consider that the Gregorian calendar was instigated by Pope Gregory XIII in the 1580s then today is his birthday. Leaving all that aside, this is my transcription of the Sarabande from Bach's Cello Suite No. 1- I hope you like it.

Here's the 3rd Carolan piece :-
'The Princess Royal' was composed by Carolan in 1725, dedicating it to a daughter of MacDermott (giving rise to it appearing under another title 'Miss MacDermott'). The MacDermotts used the royal title of 'The Princes of Coolavin', so the daughter of a MacDermott was referred to as 'The Princess Royal'.

Here's another of Carolan's pieces, it's commonly referred to as Carolan's Dream but in fact it is said to have been written by William Connellan (c. 1680). The actual title of the piece is "Molly McAlpine" but it was a favorite of Carolan's and he performed it many times eventually making he own arrangement.
