AIG to be title partner to the AIG Irish Senior Cup and Ireland U16 Girls National Team

Hockey Ireland and AIG Insurance today announced a new strategic partnership to help support the game and its development, in addition to being the official insurance partner to the organisation. It will be title partner to the AIG Irish Senior Cup and the Ireland U16 Girls National Team.

Head of Consumer Marketing and Sponsorship for AIG Ireland John Gillick stated:

A one-club woman, Hannah Matthews' hockey career took her from the U8s in Loreto Hockey Club all the way to Irish Senior Cup glory, winning the EY Champions Trophy, over 150 international caps, a World Cup silver medal, and the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

And flanking that awesome interview, we review our IRL Men's final three pool games of the Paris 2024 Olympic in games where they played India, Argentina, and New Zealand.

The ‘Homecoming’ - and it doesn’t stop. Straight into our EuroHockey Championship Qualifiers. Hosted at the Sport Ireland Campus from Aug 22-25, this is a chance for us to say thanks again to all our fans.

What an incredible journey this has been.....
....one that has been years in the making, taken months and months of training to prepare for, required sacrifice and dedication from not just the players, but from the coaches, support staff, families and friends. All culminating in a week of hockey on the World’s largest and most prestigious stage.

And what an exceptional performance the team put in. It is safe to say this group of players have done their country proud 💚

IT’S A VICTORY IN PARIS! The lads end on a high as they come from behind to beat New Zealand. The definition of a team performance, our lads had to dig very deep to hold out against a determined Black Sticks side.

A phenomenal way to close out a very special journey for this team.

Paris 2024 - IRL vs NZL ☘️

A final game in the Yves-Du-Manoir Stadium to close out our Paris 2024 Olympic Games journey. Having put in four inspired performances in the competition, the lads will hope to put everything they have left into ending Paris 2024 with a win.

A last outing in Paris, one more game, shoulder to shoulder.

Full Time: IRL 1 - 2 ARG

Our IRL Men threw everything they had into today’s performance, and were arguably the better side on the day. Today’s result means the ARG secure a top four finish in Pool B meaning our lads will not be progressing to the Quarter Finals.

One final outing in Paris tomorrow as our IRL Men will hope to end things on a high as they face NZL at 16:00 Irish Time.

Paris 2024 - IRL vs ARG ☘️

It’s a must win game for our IRL Men in their penultimate match in Pool B as they fight to keep the dream of a place in the Quarter Finals alive. A frequent opponent in Argentina lies ahead, with Los Leones entering the game off the back of a 2-0 victory over NZL.

It’s very much all still to play for, and we are all backing the lads with everything we’ve got!

It’s time to register for the 2024/25 Season!

With the 2024/25 season right around the corner, we would like to remind you that your Hockey Ireland Membership for the 2023/24 Season expires as of the 31st July 2024. To ensure you are fully prepared for the upcoming season, we encourage you to renew your membership promptly.

The 2024/25 season promises to be the biggest and best yet, with growing numbers of players and teams involved at every level of Irish Hockey.

We have upgraded our member registration system, seeking to improve issues you may have experienced in the past, making it simpler to use and follow for both existing members as well as those registering for the first time.

The registration system will require some basic information, process payment and then issue your registration number for the new season by email. 

Don’t forget, to play hockey you need to be a member and there are additional benefits including insurance, vetting and partner discounts.

A disappointing result for our IRL Men in their third game in Paris. A slow start left them chasing the game after the first half. A much improved second half led to a plethora of chances from open play and from penalty corners but just couldn’t find the back of the net.

A day to rest and regroup tomorrow for the team as they prepare for their penultimate Pool B game against Argentina on Thursday at 12:15 Irish time.

Episode #42 of Hockey Mondays with Ronan Gormley Available Now 🔉🎧

The special guests just keep coming! This week, Ronan Gormley reflects on his stellar career. Gormley was the first Irish player ever to reach 250 caps, wearing the captain's armband for over 100 of those appearances. He also helped steer Ireland to a bronze medal in the 2015 EuroHockey Championships and was part of the Irish side that competed in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

FULL TIME: IRL 1 - 2 AUS

Another huge shift from our IRL Men, but unfortunately they come away on the wrong end of a 1-2 scoreline against AUS. The team opened their Olympic account thanks to a goal from Lee Cole. It wasn't quite enough to secure any points as AUS regained their lead from the spot to eventually win the game 2-1.

The lads continue to grow in confidence as the tournament goes on. Next up is India tomorrow in the third game of Pool B. Catch it live at 12:15PM on RTÉ, BBC NI and Discovery+.

OLY Game 1 saw a valiant first outing for our IRL Men who can draw plenty of positives from their opening game in Paris against current Olympic gold medal holders, Belgium. Goalkeeping and defensive heroics kept Ireland in the hunt going into the final quarter, but a late goal put the game out of reach.

Next up our IRL Men face Australia at 09:00am IST on Monday, July 29th, in their second game of Pool B. Clear your schedule and cancel your meetings, it’s going to be another important clash. Still all to play for in this Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Paris 2024 – Everything you need to know! ☘️

The excitement is continuing to build ahead of Ireland’s opening match at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Here is everything the hockey fan needs to know to get the most of the games and stay in the loop!

Ireland Men’s Head Coach Mark Tumilty has agreed a four-year contract extension taking him to the end of 2028.

The extension, announced by Hockey Ireland, comes as the IRL Men’s Hockey team prepare for their first game of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games versus current Olympic gold medal holders, Belgium on Saturday, July 27th.

Speaking from Paris as the team prepare for Saturday’s Olympic start, Tumilty said:

“I am delighted to be leading the squad into the LA cycle. I feel this squad has still plenty of room for development and I am really excited to be working with them for another 4 years. What’s more, the organisation is in a much better place to support the squad as we look to become a top 8-nation in World Hockey.”

Currently, the IRL Men's Hockey Team is World Rank #11 and as Saturday's Game 1 approaches Tumilty was keen to add: "Right now, my focus is fully on Paris".

With only 3 days to go until our IRL Men’s opening game in Paris against current Olympic gold medal holders Belgium, the team reflect on the long journey they have been on to achieve their dreams of playing at the pinnacle of our sport: an Olympic Games.

INTERVARSITIES ARE BACK! 🏑

After a brief hiatus the Intervarsities returns to the hockey calendar thanks to the work of the Irish Universities and Colleges Hockey Association (IUCHA). Hosted by Queen's University Belfast, the two day event taking place on September 14th & 15th 2024 will see the top University and College sides from across Ireland compete for the historic Chilean & Mauritius Cups.
