It’s summer holidays which means everyone (hopefully) has a bit more energy, a bit more free time, and a bit of motivation to try something new! Get in touch with Vini to book your free trial class at VKNG Gyms. 💪🏻
It’s happening! Our summer family day taking place at the gym on Saturday 13 July 2024 ☀️ Bring the whole family and BYOB (bring your own booze) and we’ll put on the rest.
Please RSVP ([email protected]) so we know how many people we’ll be BBQ’ing for!
We’re in the process of sourcing some new Ski Erg machines but would love to hear from you, our VKNG members - if money was no object, what’s one piece of equipment you’d love to see in the gym?
Leave your wish-list in the comments!
A note to all VKNG gym members:
We pride our gym as being a place not just for working on fitness or strength, but also a place to connect with other members, and a safe space to be on your own, too.
HOWEVER, there are a few gym rules we need to remind everyone of:
- Put equipment back when you’re finished with it. Dumbbells, weight plates, floor mats, kettlebells - everything has a place and there’s no reason to leave equipment on the gym floor at the end of your session.
- Do your best to not slam or drop the weights excessively. Unless you’re at an elite athlete level and you’re lifting a huge amount of weight overhead, there’s really no reason to be dropping equipment.
- To the men: If there are any ladies training in the gym on their own, make sure you do your part to make our female members feel safe. Don’t approach any of the women unless there’s a clear invitation to do so.
- Bathrooms: please ensure the taps are switched off before leaving the bathroom - the women’s bathroom in particular is often found to have a hot water tap left running. And lastly, please make sure the toilets are always flushed after every use. 💩
Thank you to everyone for reading this far and we hope you enjoy the shirtless photo of Ronan very clearly demonstrating ‘engaged lats’ before a deadlift.
Hyrox is a form of functional fitness racing, and at its core, it is a combination of running + functional movements.
Think of the running aspect as a great way to improve your cardiovascular fitness & endurance, and the functional movements to target strength.
But whatever you do, don’t be put off by the running component if you think you’re not a great runner! At VKNG Gyms, we don’t always include running in our HYROX workouts and when we do, we also offer an alternative cardio exercise for those who may struggle with knee problems or injuries.
And if ‘speed’ is your biggest fear, just remember that HYROX is all about competing against yourself and pushing your own limits. And no matter your age, when you’re training with the VKNG Horde, we won’t let you fall behind or feel out of place - we’re a community and we lift each other up no matter what 💪🏻
New to the area and looking for the best gym in Howth? Or maybe you’re already a member but looking to upgrade your membership?
Check out our packages and feel free to tag a friend or share directly with them! Let’s grow the VKNG Horde together 💪🏻
(PS all memberships have the option of “OUT OF HOURS” access at no additional charge.
PPS all prices & offerings are correct at time of publishing. VKNG Gyms reserves the right to amend prices and membership offering without notice.)
While CrossFit focuses on a broad range of exercises, HYROX is more specific and combines running with functional fitness implements like burpees, sled pulls, and lunges.
Additionally, HYROX has a set format, while CrossFit prides itself on being constantly varied. So even though we love throwing weights around, we do love the inclusivity that Hyrox promotes by being a bit simpler to follow!
One of the biggest concerns we’ve had to face since becoming an official HYROX gym, is the fear a lot of our regular members initially showed towards this new fitness workout. In hindsight though, because we’ve been offering Strength classes and group HIIT workouts, transitioning to Hyrox wasn’t that big of a deal. From teenage years to the twilight years, we have all ages & abilities participating in our Hyrox classes.
The only person you’re ever competing against in our classes, is yourself! We offer Hyrox 5 days per week with sessions taking place in the mornings and evenings, as well as Saturdays. Get in touch if you would like to give it a try!
Hyrox is described as THE FITNESS RACE FOR EVERYONE. It’s a combination of cardio, strength and endurance.
Endurance exercises such as ski, row & running, combined with wall balls, sled push & pull, sandbag lunges, and yes… the dreaded burpee.
But you don’t have to compete in order to join our HYROX program. We offer morning & evening classes, and we have 45-min and 60-min classes in the weekly schedule, as well as an ‘elite’ group with the odd monthly race simulation thrown in the mix, too.
If you want to get your HR into the red zone and burn serious calories, then get in touch today to come try one of our classes!

We’re into the business part of 2023, and if you don’t want to be one of those “New Year, New Me” jokers, then check out our schedule (see story highlights on our profile!) and get cracking!
New month, new challenges and new goals! Who’s ready to make October count and get stuck in? From HYROX to Spinning to Metcon classes, there’s no excuse for you to not be making your goals a reality.
When gym members feel like family. You know, the type of family that constantly take the p**s, laugh at each other, but constantly have each other’s back? Real family!
Spin class is such a great platform to watch members push themselves. No matter what fitness level you’re at, spinning is almost always a brutal session, but that endorphin rush is almost instant the playlist comes to an end.
Hands up if you’re a fan of our spin classes? And let’s us know down below which trainer runs the best sessions 😎
Not sure if you’re picking up the clues from the last few posts, but the common denominator is ‘consistency’ - keep showing up, and keep racking up more W’s than L’s.
1% better every day!
If you had a “summer body” goal and didn’t get the results you were looking for, come and have a chat with us before the end of the month. We have a couple of new things planned, as well as a HYROX simulation event which will be a good measure of your progress.
Stop saying “I will” and just start “showing up”.
It’s time to shake things up and bring you some fresh content as we push to the end of 2023!
We’re still going to keep things ‘social’ and have fun, but it’s time to take the VKNG brand to a new level!
⬆️⬆️⬆️ important communication for you peeps

And here is the reveal! From Thursday the 25th Yoga classes are going to be on our timetable, weekly @ 7pm!
Pay As You Go Drop in is €15 for non members.
The class will be lead by Shauna ( )
Hi! My name is Shauna. I’m a yoga instructor based in Howth.
I fell in love with my yoga practice when I began to notice all of its benefits percolating throughout my life. This love for yoga and my experiences of its benefits is what drives me to share it with others. I completed my 200hr training at Reformation in Dublin, studying a combination of hatha, vinyasa and ta**ra yoga styles.
My classes focus on integrating breath and movement to enhance mind body connection, increase strength and mobility and build a foundation for a mindful lifestyle off the mat.
If I had to pick a favourite posture I might say Dancer - a balancing posture, hip opener and heart opener all rolled into one. But my real favourite part is when a yoga practice impacts the rest of my day.
Little homage to our trainer 👀
Today we are going with a fun meal, low in carbs and delicious.
