โท On World Earth Day, we all pause to remember that we have one beautiful earth ๐ and it is our job to mind it for the generations to come. It is our resposibility to ensure that we take care of this world around us before it is too late. ๐๐ผ
โท Each and every one of us has a part to play and the small steps that we take individually, can collectively amount to something substantial and significant. Never underestimate the contribution that each of us can make. ๐ช
โท We must also ensure that we instill in our children an appreciation of the beauty of the world around us and teach them to care for it as they are the future caretakers. ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ง

โ๏ธ | An absolutely stunning William IV Rosewood Display Cabinet with Marble-top, In the manner of Williams & Gibton ๐. This is a very unusual cabinet and probably would have been used in a museum for the display of specimens ๐ผ๏ธ. The cabinet opens to the side and has a tiered display section behind glass. There are pull-out timber specimen trays in the lower section of the cabinet. A very unusual item indeed ๐ง.
โ๏ธ | The Irish firm of Williams and Gibton (1830-44) are one of the most well know of Irish furniture makers of the 19th Century. Listed as Cabinetmakers, upholders, Auctioneers, Valuators and House agents. Previously the firm of Mack, Williams and Gibton (1811 โ 29) who were appointed 'Upholster's & Cabinet Makers to his Majesty, His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant and His Majesty's โ Board of Works' in 1806 and they retained their Royal Warrant for many years โ. They supplied for some of the most important public buildings in Ireland, including the Four Courts , the War Office, the Barracks Office, Dublin Castle ๐ฐ, the Chapel Royal and the Treasury and Viceregal Lodge. They were also commissioned to produce furniture for many of the Great Irish Country Houses. ๐๏ธ
โ๏ธ | The typical style of Williams and Gibton furniture combined richly figured wood with robust detailed carvings and characteristically Irish decoration. They are celebrated for their use of fine quality timbers and their high quality of workmanship ๐
โ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธ Today we bring you......!
โA stunning Rosewood Turnover-leaf Card Table from the William IV period (1830-1837).โ
โRosewood is a rich warm brown wood that has a very distinct grain. The figured top lifts up and swivels to reveal a lilac baize interior playing surface. The top is decorated with a carved frieze supported by a lovely shaped rosewood pedestal, finishing on a quatrefoil base with fantastic solid rosewood carved feet.โ
โThis table is very much in the manner of an Irish table mostly notable, the large paw-foot detail which is very typically Irish.โ

๐บ How to tell an antique mirror from a new copyโ
Antique mirrors are a statement piece in any home & really open up a room due to their size & the light they reflect, but how do you tell a genuine antique mirror?
โ Looking at the boards on the back of the mirror & seeing how it is attached to the frame is a good starting point to identify an antique. The back boards should be discoloured & show their age & you shouldnโt see any modern screws in the framework. Where it's not possible to see the back boards there are other ways to recognise an antique mirror.
โYou can study the frame for signs of wear & imperfections. An antique mirror will rarely ever look completely perfect, without blemishes or imperfections. For some people, the more blemishes, the better ๐
โBut the best way to tell the age of a mirror is by the glass in a mirror. An antique mirror will normally show itโs age through the imperfection of the glass. You may see some random bubbles, dark blotchy marks or slight waves in the glass โ they are hallmarks of a genuine antique mirror. Old mirrors may also have a sparkly effect from the reaction of the mercury in the glass (the traditional method in which many antique mirrors were made). The โจsparkly glassโจ is the holy grail for an antique mirror. โ๏ธ
๐ฑIt is the imperfect look of antiques which makes them all the more authentic & which lovers of antiques simply adore.Every home should have at least one wonderful mirror as a statement piece โ it will take you dรฉcor to the next level.๐ผ๏ธ
Weโd ๐ to see pictures of your wonderful statement mirror pictured in it's home. Share below & we will add to our stories ๐ ๐
