Today we would like to give a shout out to our wonderful Casking Team at the Great Northern Distillery. Working around the clock filling, disgorging blending & vatting. Here's a snapshot of the Casking Team hard at work disgorging some mature spirit to be re-casked into Oloroso Sherry casks. This liquid will be warehoused until it's ready to be drawn from cask and used in a bespoke customer project.

We were delighted to celebrate our Bord Bia - The Irish Food Board Origin Green Gold Membership for 2024 recognising our progress on our Sustainability Targets.

"I've lived in Pearse Park for over 40 years.

I went to the Friary School and saw the Harp building every day while growing up. I remember the runners at lunchtime and the smell of hops in the air back then. I recall being told that when they were done with the hops, the workers would throw them out at the back of the brewery near Icehouse Hill and horses and cows would eat them.

Harp and McArdle's were some of the best jobs in town at the time. At its peak, nearly 250 people worked there and the staff were well taken care of. Even today, some of the former staff members meet at Kennedy's and get a few free pints. I've heard other stories of what some of the workers got up to back then, but that's for another day!

Our family had five generations involved in the brewery, going way back. My uncle was an operator, there was a coppersmith, a brewer, and my grandma's cousin was a managing director. I think everyone in Dundalk knew someone who worked at the brewery. The Harp logo was strongly associated with the town, especially on the jersey of Dundalk FC.

Nowadays, the distillery sends tankers of whiskey all over the world and has thankfully kept the brewing tradition in Dundalk alive. After the Harp closed, I remember there were plans to turn the brewery into housing. There are 13 acres here, and I think it would have been strange if it had all been turned into an estate. This year, we will produce 16 to 17 million liters of whiskey, which is a lot, especially for a man like me who doesn't drink! Ninety percent of our workforce is now from Dundalk, and we try to source much of what we need to run the brewery from local companies. If the housing plan had gone ahead, none of this would have been possible."

We love mornings in Dundalk when the sun is shining, especially when we see a project we worked on with a customer coming to life. Bespoke Blended Irish Whiskey being shipped to Japan 🇯🇵.

Yesterday GND took part in Lots of Socks day in support of the Down Syndrome Centre North East for World Down Syndrome day.

We were glad to wear colourful, funky socks to join in and raise awareness and information on Down Syndrome.
