We are an English language school located in the heart of Galway city on the West coast of Ireland.

Galway Language Centre is a small, family-run, adult English language school, established in 1987. Our school is located in a beautiful, renovated 18th century mill overlooking the River Corrib in the centre of Galway City, the cultural capital of the West Coast of Ireland. We can offer host family accommodation where you will live as a guest with an Irish family. Getting to know Irish culture and way of life will be an enriching part of your English language experience here in Galway.

🏰✨ Lynch’s Castle is a stunning example of a medieval fortified house in Galway. Standing four storeys high, it features intricately carved windows, gargoyles, and ornamental mouldings. Originally built by the powerful Lynch family for protection against raids, parts of this limestone structure date back to the 14th century, with most built in the 16th century. Today, it’s one of Galway’s most recognizable landmarks, celebrated for its Gothic-style façade and exquisite carvings. 🏛️❤️

💀 The Dullahan – The Irish Headless Horseman 🐴
In Irish folklore, the Dullahan is a terrifying headless rider who roams the night. The name can be translated to “dark man.” He has flaming eyes, carries his own head under his arm and rides a black horse, appearing as a warning of death. 🐎💨 It's said that when he stops riding, someone nearby is about to die. Beware if you hear his horse’s hooves! 👻

Macnas Halloween Parade returns to Galway on Sunday, October 27th, 2024, starting at 5:30 PM. 🎃 The Origins of Halloween Costumes 🎭
The tradition of wearing costumes at Halloween comes from an old Celtic custom.
