Great Healthy Clubs training session delivered by SARI - Sport Against Racism Ireland on team work, fair play and respect to our Rinn Gaels and Bornacoola underage players.

Despite the rain trying to ruin the evening, the SARI team still managed to deliver a great workshop.

Thanks a million to all the players and coaches that turned up to this important event and to the SARI team on delivering a very informative and worthwhile workshop. ⚫️🟡🟢

🟡On behalf of Bornacoola GAA Club and the Healthy Club Committee, we would like to thank everyone that came out this morning to attend our Darkness Into Light walk for Pieta House.

🟡This was our second year to run this event and had just over 125 people take part, which was up on last years numbers which was great to see.

🟡We would firstly like to thank Pat and his team of stewards for leading out the group and making sure it was a safe walk for all involved.

🟡A huge pat on the back goes to Fiona, Rosari and Mairead who supplied, cooked and baked all the hot food, cakes, scones, biscuits, fruit and teas and coffees. You name it, we had it.
Also, a big thank you to Deirdre who supplied us with trays of sandwiches for the morning.

🟡Not to forget what the morning is about. In the current climate anxiety, depression and mental health issues are affecting more and more people. Su***de and self-harm is a major issue and help is out there and for those that are struggling. Start by visiting Pieta. Ending Su***de. or www.pieta.ie or their 24 free phone number 1800 247 247.

🟡Again thanks a million to all who participated and we encourage more to join us again in 2024.

🟡🟡 Don’t forget to join us this coming Saturday morning the 6th of May at 4:15am at Bornacoola GAA grounds in Dromod for our Darkness into Light walk for Pieta house.

This is a great fundraising event to help people impacted by su***de and self harm.

We hope to see everyone from the local community and surrounding areas and parishes for this great event.

There will be loads of delicious refreshments with tea and coffee served on return from the walk.

Please spread the word and don’t forget to set those alarms 🟡🟡

On Wednesday we successfully completed the Every step counts challenge in association with Irish Life and the GAA.
We had 72 people registered from our club and we finished 21st out of 112 registered GAA clubs from Connaught.

We recorded just over 11,500 kms which is the equivalent of walking to Croke Park and back from Bornacoola GAA pitch 40 times!!
Well done to all involved and I also want to thank our walkers who came out each week of the challenge 🖤🧡

Very interesting stories shared at the latest healthy club’s conference held in Croke Park at the weekend.
Oisin McConville especially giving a very interesting talk about his battle with a gambling addiction.

As they always say, only the best footballers get to hold that Sam Maguire Cup 😉

As part of our healthy clubs initiative, Bornacoola GAA grounds have now become a smoke and v**e free zone.
Smoking and va**ng is now prohibited at all times on our grounds.
This is going to protect all of our members and supporters against the effects of first and second hand smoke.
We launched our smoke and v**e free grounds with the help of 100+ kids who were taking part in the GAA cúl camps.
Also a huge thanks to Irish Life for sponsoring our signage which is now erected around the grounds.
