Both visits were excellent, enjoyable and served up a number of talking points over the next few hours, days and weeks. The trip was very interesting, and we got a preview of the current research, the up coming research over the next few months and years as well as an update on the most recent work carried out, which is ready for publishing. The students got the opportunity to visit information stands from colleges, professional bodies, industry and further education sectors and talk to advisors on what career paths were available. Student also had the option of going to information talks from a wide variation of guest speakers. 𝘿𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙣𝙚 went along with the marketing team to discuss the Agricultural options. As usual Patrick gave a comprehensive lecture about his farm and he role within ICBF and genetic progress within the dairy industry followed by a farm walk showing how genetic selection has been implemented on his farm and the benefits of it. On route to Belfast they visited the Hill Development Unit at CAFRE, while in Scotland they visited the Hill and Uplands Research Farm at Kirkton, followed by farm visits with Marcus Maxwell, Viewfield Romneys and Robert Parker, Drumdow Black Baldies. A big thanks to everyone who took time out of their busy schedule to talk to us. All the visits were excellent, well presented and everyone took some key messages back home with them. Earlier in the season signs were looking good for a full lecturer turn out but when it came to toeing the line 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙬 and 𝙇𝙞𝙖𝙢 didn't disappoint. 𝔽𝕣𝕚𝕕𝕒𝕪'𝕤 𝔽𝕒𝕣𝕞𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝔽𝕦𝕟 pt 1 🄵🄰🅁🄼🄸🄽🄶 🄵🅄🅃🅄🅁🄴🅂 𝗔𝗚𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗨𝗟𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗔𝗟 𝗠𝗢𝗖𝗞 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪𝗦 The fourth year Ag Science students are on the home straight now and heading into the final few weeks of college. This week they took part in mock interviews in preparation for their job applications when they leave us. The students had the option to apply for one of two jobs; an Agricultural Advisor or an Education Officer. They then prepared a CV for the job in question and the external interview panels made up of professionals within the industry put them through their paces to determine who would be the chosen candidate. The interview board for the agriculture advisor consisted of Tommy Doherty (Teagasc Sligo/Leitrim/Donegal), Dominic Gallagher (Aurivo), Hannah Doherty (ATU Donegal Department of Life & Physical Sciences) and Tricia Fitzpatrick (ATU Donegal Careers Service) and they selected Cavan native Lorraine Moffitt as their recipient of the best interview. The Education panel of Kevin Mc Menamin (Teagasc), Patrick Gibbons (Teagasc) and Catherine Lyster (ATU Careers) had a similarly difficult task separating what they described as an excellent standard throughout the day; eventually agreeing on Donegal’s Catherine Grier. Both winners received a voucher which was very kindly sponsored by Aurivo Co-Op. All students received one-to-one feedback on their interview before finished the day off with a fantastic group discussion with all interviewers relaying what they found to be strengths of the students and providing them with tips and tricks that they can work on going forward.
