Our Crafting Europe FUSION Project Participants and Partners on their recent Research Trip to Turin, Italy where they visited the exhibition of their design prototypes at the Circolo del Design Cultural Centre. During the trip they attended the Creative Lab Print Club of Turin and experienced an architectural practice lecture. They also paid a visit to the Alocova centre in Milan and the Cittadellarte Foundation where they met with Head of Fashion B.E.S.T. Olga Pirazzi.

The FUSION project which has been managed by the Lead Partner Limerick School of Art & Design TUS commenced in April 2020 providing online masterclasses by renowned industry professionals, and opening doors to networking and design collaboration all over Europe. The programme which was focused on the design of innovative prototypes for active aging was funded by Creative Europe, involved participants and Project Partners from Ireland, Italy, Portugal and the U.K.

The Crafting Europe FUSION exhibition opens at the Circolo Del Design centre in Turin, Italy on Wednesday May 25th at 18:30hrs.
It showcases exciting and innovative design prototypes for active aging which have been produced by programme participants from Ireland, Italy, Portugal and the UK. This project which has been managed by the Lead Partner - Limerick School of Art & Design TUS, commenced in April 2020 providing online masterclasses by renowned industry professionals, and opening doors to networking and design collaboration all over Europe. Samples of work by Rebecca Marsden who is based at the International Fashion Incubator and Centre of Excellence in Fashion Design in Limerick, Ireland. The objective of Rebecca's concept involves material investigations and the exploration of of wool and bioresin fusion to create heat formable woolCAST.

Samples of work by Maggie McBride who is based in Sweden. The objective of Maggie's concept is the development of a tactile switch accessory to use as an alternative to a touch screen, enabling the user to respond quickly to an incoming call on their smartphone.

Samples of work by Hugo Palmares who is based in Porto, Portugal. The objective of Hugo's project is to alert society to the risks of not taking care of lower limbs during active ageing.

Samples of work by Luisa Mendes, who is based at the IPCA Design School in Portugal. Luisa's work focusses on restoring tactile sensations, and promotion of cognitive stimulation, visibility, orality, and empowerment of the elderly, through a mechanical prosthesis for upper limb amputation integrated into clothing, which allows a sensory experience from a handshake.

Samples of work by London based Joanna Vanderpuije, who is completing her residency at Makerversity Studios.
Joanna is exploring the creation of a domestic product that aids bolster memory and stimulation of brain function
in citizens encountering early dementia and the ageing community.

Samples of work by Ariane Fourquier, who is based in London, U.K. where she is completing her residency at Makerversity Studios. Ariane's work examines the neurological and physiological phenomenon for the methodology of trauma by creation of smart woven materials as design tools for sexual abuse trauma recovery.
