Gizmoโ€™s shadow ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ› The bond between littermates is so precious!
Gizmo and Berlioz do everything together, that includes visits to the vet. At 6 months of age they checked in for their castration procedures. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

As breeding is not the concern here, the decision to neuter these two was purely made for their health. And we must commend their doting owner on that! Benefits of neutering go beyond breeding, and those health benefits are what make us purrrr ๐Ÿ˜ผ They include;

๐Ÿ˜ธ Eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and decreases incidence of prostate disease
๐Ÿ˜ธ Reduces roaming to find a mate, making it less likely to get lost or injured
๐Ÿ˜บ Reduces the risk of fighting other males, in turn preventing them from contracting and spreading infectious diseases FIV and FeLV

Prince Rabbit
City Vet Pets ๐Ÿ’œ See me grow! Itโ€™s been 4 months since we were appointed as Prince Rabbit Iโ€™s medical team. Heโ€™s quickly outgrowing his carriage, as are his ears quickly outgrowing him! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Prince checked in with us for a few hours on the day of his castration. Luckily, we have kennel quarters fit for a prince as all our patients are treated like royalty here. ๐Ÿ˜Œ Losing his โœจcrown jewelsโœจ will not make him any less of a Prince. If anything, it will further his succession of being King! Neutering encourages a healthier and longer lifespan, eliminating reproductive cancers. It will make him less prone to destructive and undesirable hormone driven behaviours resulting in a calmer, more fair leader ๐Ÿ˜‰

City Vet Pets ๐Ÿ’œ You pet me, I pet you, I got you ๐Ÿซถ Rizzo is Mr.Personality! He had all the team aflutter. Hear that purr ๐Ÿ˜ป Rizzo is a 4 month old domestic short hair cat. He stayed with us for his castration with Donal.

Pain Awareness Month
Cats instinctively hide signs of pain ๐Ÿ˜ผ the only indication of discomfort you may get is when you notice a change in typical behavior. Recognising the symptoms can make a real difference to treatment and quality of life. ๐Ÿพ Changes to behaviour e.g. sudden aggression ๐Ÿพ Changes to activity e.g. decrease in exercise or play, hesitation to jump. ๐Ÿพ Posture and mobility issues e.g. difficulty standing, or to get up from lying down ๐Ÿพ Changes to appetite. If you have any concerns that your pet may be showing signs of osteoarthritis, call us on 061-419760 for advice or to book and appointment. ๐Ÿ’œ

We've partnered up with @zoetispetsireland this month, to raise awareness about pets in pain. Did you knowโ“osteoarthritis is the most common cause of chronic pain in cats and dogs - of all ages, breeds and sizes. Our pets are experts at hiding their pain, and will do so for as long as possible until symptoms appear. While this served them well as a survival tactic before they were domesticated, it's not helpful for us as owners to recognise signs in order to manage and treat any pain. This requires owners to be very observant, as symptoms tend to be very subtle and more behaviour-related. Would you know if your pet was in pain? Join us this month to learn how to spot the signs ๐Ÿ’œ

City Vet Pets ๐Ÿ’œ No better way to celebrate World Senior Citizens Day than with these 2 Golden Girls ๐Ÿฅฐ Molly, 13yrs & Zoey, 10yrs old are mother & daughter. They have been patients of City Vet for over 10 years! We have been seeing them more regularly in recent years as they become more prone to certain health conditions that are linked with age. It is important to remember that old age is not a disease itself. Pets age faster than we do โ€“ so a trip to the vet once a year is about the equivalent of a senior citizen visiting the doctor every 7 years. It is therefore a good idea to bring your older pet for a regular check up, we recommend at least every 6 months.

Donal is in studio at Live 95 this morning. He will be chatting with Joe about seasonal topics of Allergies and Anxiety our pets may experience with the back to school routine. Tune in now!
