Happy New Year
Why do we scan mares so many times? This mare ovulated two follicles at about a day between them. And here we have spotted twin pregnancies. Sometimes the second pregnancy is too small to detect at the first scan and could go unnoticed π± We can βpinchβ one so that the mare can continue a normal safe pregnancy π΄ Why is this so awful?? Mares are not designed to carry twins to full term and will often abort both pregnancies βΉοΈ and most that carry to full term will produce smaller than expected foals and there may be some scary complications at foaling π±. #preventionisbetterthancure #alwaysscanagain When to scan? Day 16, day 18 and a heartbeat at day 28/30 #dooneenequine #studvet #dooneenvets
