Some advice for anyone planning a trip to Ireland and booking a private vehicle and driver.
----When booking a private driver and vehicle always make sure to ask to see the relevant paperwork, ie vehicle insurance and licence to permit them to be hired for hire or reward. -- The driver should be holding a SPSV /PSV licence.
--The vehicle should have a special plate/sticker attached designating it as having being tested and cleared for public hire work.
There are a few cowboys who may offer to drive you around, offering a private driver and vehicle for your adventures in Ireland who are NOT licenced or insured to do so legally.
If you hire one of these boyos, you will not be insured in the event of an accident, and the vehicle could be seized at a law enforcement checkpoint leaving you with no transport.
No honest operator will mind verifying with you, that he and his vehicle are properly registered and insured.
In these situations a supposedly "cheap" deal could turn out to be a very expensive deal in the long term.
Be safe folks while you're enjoying our wonderful country.
Interesting!!
US academic believes he is the first person to gain Irish citizenship based on DNA test John Portmann (61) believes he is first to use modern technology to prove that he is entitled to an Irish passport
Great craic there this week!!
By 9pm tonight, we had issued over 150 fines to those found using their phone while driving.
Despite the fact that using a phone while driving can cause a serious or fatal road traffic collision, some drivers continue to persistently do it.
Would it really hurt you to leave it down when behind the wheel?
Well said!!
Even though I'm on a couple of days off, I will continue to monitor the quality of the Guinness.

Great city!
A great story, that I often tell on tour. If you're going, enjoy the craic!!
.. well done to all concerned. ๐๐

Caveat Emptor!
Kilmainham Gaol has witnessed some of the most heroic and tragic events in Irelandโs emergence as a modern nation. It is one of our busiest and best-loved heritage sites.
As the summer season begins, we wish to emphasise that no third-party organizations have been given authorization to sell tickets for Kilmainham Gaol. Any tickets acquired from external sources, including reselling platforms, are not valid and such tickets-holders will be denied entry. Additionally, we are aware of fraudulent websites claiming to be our official site. These websites and domain names may appear similar, but they have absolutely no affiliation with the Office of Public Works or Kilmainham Gaol. We are urging visitors to be vigilant, as tickets bought from these sites cannot be honoured.

Hopefully -- never needed. But just in case--
Timing is everything! As we start into the bank holiday weekend Iโd like to announce some BIG NEWS! The Irish Tourist Assistance Service (ITAS) is rebranding and our new website has gone live today! From here on in we will be known as TOURIST SOS
For those who havenโt heard of us, we are here to help international tourists to Ireland who are victims of crime or medical trauma, or who find themselves in sticky situations (lost passports etc). We liaise with embassies, airlines & credit card companies. We have offices in Pearse St and OโConnell St Garda Stations and are open 7 days a week.
This whole rebranding process has been a phenomenal journey. It has taken 18 months of hard work. So many people to thankโฆ. the UCD Innovation Academy, Fรกilte Ireland, Brand Led Growth, Dept. Of Justice, our CEO Lisa Kennedy, Manager Pat Mullaney, our staff, and our very hard working board.
We hope you never need us, but if you do, weโre here.
Remember our name, TOURIST SOS.
Feel free to share & spread the word.
Many thanks!

Beautiful part of the lovely Connemara. I'll be there on Wednesday next.
Inagh Valley, Connemara.
The name Connemara (Conamara) translates as โInlets of the Seaโ and the roads along the peninsulaโs filigreed shoreline bear this out as they wind around the coves of this breathtaking stretch of Irelandโs jagged west coast.
From Galway city, a slow, shore-side route passes hidden beaches and seaside hamlets. At the start of the Gaeltacht region, west of Spiddal, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic, with parched fields rolling to fissured bays.
Connemaraโs starkly beautiful interior, traversed by the N59, is a kaleidoscope of rusty bogs, lonely valleys and shimmering black lakes. At its heart are the Maumturk Mountains and the pewter-tinged quartzite peaks of the Twelve Bens mountain range, with a network of scenic hiking and biking trails. Everywhere the land is laced by stone walls.
