Great open water training this morning supporting swimmers of at Lough Owel, Mullingar. What a super open water swimming venue!
Todays goal was pacing and drafting.
Focus as follows:
🔥warm up with focus on ow skills such as ☯️ bilateral breathing, 👀 sighting and🖐️ effective catch.
Main set focus
🫁 threshold pacing over a given distance. (Eg 100m)
⏱️ time your distance on first interval
♻️swim on repeat, keeping each interval to the original time! 🥵
⚠️Pacing skills are essential for racing. Get it wrong at the start, and you will pay for it!
Cool down
Drafting in 🏊🏊♀️and 🏊♂️🏊♀️🏊
An absolute pleasure to support the members of this morning for two back-to-back open water technique and training sessions. What a wonderful group of swimmers, willing to get “uncomfortable” and stretch past their comfort zone. Well done to everyone and all the best with your preparation for the swim in June!

Swim For Good.
On Sunday we were delighted to welcome Maxine Strain from Swim Smooth Ireland along with a group of swimmers to present a cheque for the very generous amount of €10,640 to Wicklow RNLI.
The Swim Smooth 2022 BIG charity swim took place on Saturday 10th December 2022 at Killashee, Naas. Swimmers choose to swim 5km or 10km in the pool to raise money for Wicklow RNLI. Smooth Swim choose Wicklow Lifeboat as Wicklow Harbour is an area used for some of their members training during the summer months.
Karen Boyle of Wicklow RNLI Fundraising Branch accepted the donation on behalf of the RNLI from Maxine Strain.
Thank you, for a very generous donation that is deeply appreciated by Wicklow RNLI.

What is Hannah looking so happy about you ask?
Hannah had no swimming knowledge or ability just 5 weeks ago. As in zero.
After just 5 lessons (and some serious practice on her own), Hannah has just swum 8 lengths of the pool, non-stop. As you can see, she couldn't be happier.
Hannah is an ultra marathon runner and personal trainer and hopes to complete a triathlon soon. Go Hannah🌟
If you are looking for a pool-based triathlon, Naas Triathlon's sprint distance at the end of next month is ideal!🏊♀️🚴♀️🏃♂️

We are delighted to launch the first course in our TECHNIQUE SERIES. Each of these 4-swim-session courses will focus on a particular aspect of the frontcrawl stroke.
First up is ROTATION!
What is it?
When do we use it?
Why is it a fundental movement?
All of these questions will be addressed and you will learn the what when where and how of rotation over the 4 sessions.
Course starts Sunday 18th September for 4 weeks @ Killashee, Naas.
Places are strictly limited.

Squad swimmer, Nicola has seen some great improvements over the last few months.
❓️Nicola, what is it that you like about swimming?
🧠Swimming is great for completely clearing your mind with ‘one, two three, breathe’ being your entire focus!
❓️What are you most pleased about when you think about your recent swim improvements?
🫁 In January this year I wasn’t able to do more than two lengths freestyle without stopping. I can now swim two kilometres, which is 80 lengths. I still can’t quite believe it.
❓️How did you feel about joining "the squad" beforehand?
😳 I was a little worried about joining the squad as I was sure they would all be excellent swimmers and I’d be the worst in the pool. I was looking forward to what I could achieve in a team environment though.
❓️And what do you enjoy about squad training now?
❤️ The squad is great fun and ‘my lane’ has been very supportive. I look forward to it every week and Maxine really pushes and encourages us to get through the drills and improve our swimming on every level.
❓️What are your swimming goals for 2022?
🎯 I would like to improve on my CSS time by 25% and be able to swim 3km. I would also love to master tumble turns! Maybe even do an open water event!
