Fussy eaters at home? Try getting kids involved!
I KNOW...sometimes you are on the back foot, it's a rush in the kitchen, you haven't figured out what you're even cooking, the house is a mess, and patience is running short...and then you still have to face the dreaded dinner time; the battle! π¬ You're tired, and to make life easier, you just put on the old reliable. I hear you!
Anyone ever experienced this? π
Well, if we could reduce one of those stresses, wouldn't that be amazing?
As a mom of 3, I always said from the get go..."There is no way I'm cooking lots of different dinners". And to this day, I have stuck to it. Trust me, that can be tricky, but the flip side for me is that cooking different meals is more stressful, and takes time away from doing other things that need to be done.
Getting kids involved with the cooking process strikes up a healthy connection with food. They see, feel and smell the food. You can give them age appropriate jobs. My kids β€ getting involved. They cut, poor, crack, measure, mix, weight, crush etc. Coordination, fine motor movement, maths are also being developed, as well as reading skill if they are following a recipe.
I find they are more happy and relaxed, and they have also had some one-to-one time! They are also excited to see how everything looks at the end and keen to try the results.
And when they get a bit older, you can give them the responsibility of thinking about a meal they would like to cook. I don't care what they want to cook, as long as I have all the ingredients. And I just oversee things for safety, giving them as much space as I possibly can.
Preparing food and making meals more fun, really helps. Encourage them to try something new. Congrat them for doing it, and if they don't want to try any more...that's ok, no pressure, you can try again another day π
These are my tired and tested methods that have worked for me. What have you tried?
Ah yes, nothing like putting your feet into the cold morning dew! Have you tried it?
Great for grounding the body and mind. Give it a go if you notice your mind is very active, or you just don't feel all that connected to your body. Warning...winter dew is particularly refreshing π₯Άππ£
