Measles is a serious viral infection that spreads very easily. Make sure you get the MMR vaccine before you travel abroad, if you are not up to date with your vaccines. Even, if you’re not sure if you’ve had the vaccine before, it’s still safe to get one to make sure you’re protected.

Extra MMR vaccine advised for babies 6-12 months prior to travelling abroad.

We wish Dr Tommy a fond farewell and the best of luck as he embarks on an exciting career in GP.

It's that time of year again where we say farewell to the GP trainee who has been with us for the past year and we welcome a new Doctor who will be with us for the next year as they complete their GP training.

We look forward to hearing of how his career evolves in the coming years.

We welcome our new GP trainee, Dr Amy Lloyd, who has finished her first day with us and is looking forward to getting to know the community here.

We are devastated to hear of the death of an adult from Measles in the Dublin-Leinster area. 😢

Below is an image depicting symptoms of measles. If you think you, or your child, may have measles please call us to discuss before attending the practice.

We are helping the HSE with a vaccination catch up programme for children under 10 who may have missed the MMR vaccine in the past. All children who received all their baby vaccines, and vaccines in junior infants, are fully protected and do not need any further doses at this time. Please book with us if your child missed their vaccine and you would like them have this vaccine now.

We are hoping this catch up programme will soon be extended to older children and young adults. We will be happy to help with providing MMR for these age groups also.

The friends and family of the deceased are in our thoughts at this time.

Many of you may have noted that we have introduced a fee of €15 for processing private prescriptions since August 1st.

This fee reflects the time involved in reviewing each prescription request. We review each request to ensure each prescription is being safely monitored and prescribed.

While such a fee is standard in many GP practices we have not charged it till now. We have tried extremely hard to avoid increasing our fees in the current climate of very significant increasing running costs in the day to day functioning of the practice. We hope the introduction of this fee will help us avoid increasing our other fees at this time as we are very aware that current living costs significantly affect many in our community.

Thank you for your understanding.

On Monday July 10th we welcome Dr Tommy Finnucan, another Munster person and the new GP registrar joining our team for his final year of GP training. He has several years of hospital work behind him and is looking forward to completing his training here with us in Newtown Medical Practice.

Every year a new GP registrar joins our team to spend 12 months here gaining valuable experience. Each one to date has been a tremendous addition to the team in the practice and helped us immensely in our endeavors to provide the best possible service to our local community. They have always been an invaluable resource for patients.

We would like to thank all our patients who engage so well with our Registrars - encouraging with and challenging them appropriately!.

Most especially - Welcome Dr Tommy Finnucan!

A joy filled welcome to the world is long overdue for the baby of our most recent GP Registrar Dr Charlotte Collery. We are pleased to let you know that her daughter arrived safe & sound a number of weeks back and mother and baby are thriving along with the help and support of older brother and dad. 💗💗💗💗

This would be Charlotte's last week with us in the practice and we would like to acknowledge what a pleasure it was to have her working along side us in the practice this past year, and to wish her ever success in her future career as a GP. 😀

Some routine care will be deferred for a week.☹

Questions about MENOPAUSE?

The Irish College of GPs have put together a useful series of short informative videos to help women wondering about menopause and it's treatment. They are really helpful to prepare for discussing your Menopause with your GP, and to aid in decision making in relation to starting or continuing HRT. Have a look at this link.

Lots of adults who missed out on Covid boosters at Christmas time, because they tested positive for Covid, will soon be eligible for this booster.

We will have a few extra doses available tomorrow (Tuesday) if this would suit you.

If you had COVID-19 after your first round of vaccination, you should get your booster dose after at least:

➡️ 3 months if you are 16 or older
➡️ 6 months if you are aged 12 to 15

If you get COVID-19 again, the booster vaccine can reduce the seriousness of your symptoms. To book your booster visit: https://bit.ly/3ieBzNW

Spring is most certainly in the air!
Great to feel and see a bit of normality out and about. :)

As we are a healthcare setting, and we have vulnerable members of our community passing through our premises every day, we are still asking people attending the practice to wear a mask.

We also ask that you let us know if you have ANY covid-like symptoms, or have recently been a close contact. We will still be happy to see you in the practice, but we will offer you an appointment at a time when we can avoid too much overlap with any vulnerable patients.

Please respect these requests and help us to continue to provide medical care while protecting those who may be vulnerable.

28/01/2022
