The end of 2023 is almost here, what a great first year of having IMRA in the northwest. Thank you to everyone who helped bring the events here, all the volunteers and everyone who took part.
The 2024 calendar of events is live with even more events in the west and north west and we can't wait to see you all again for another great year of running.

As darkness sweeps around the globe in mid-November, 25,000 people worldwide will get up from their armchairs, slip on their red flashing armbands and pull on their running shoes to complete a 5k run.

Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership are looking for the publics views on outdoor recreation and sports participation in County Sligo. See below and if you have 5minutes it would be great to give your views.

Entry is open for the Halloween Half Marathon and Spooky 5km at Glensheshkin Woods, Kilworth, Co. Cork on Saturday 28th October. There will also be an earlier Kiddies Candy Run (with adult). Plenty of goodies, and refreshments provided afterwards for all.

There is a meeting to discuss the NW league for 2024 and beyond on Wednesday 23rd at 7.30pm over zoom.
There is particular interest in extending beyond Sligo after this the inaugural year of the Northwest League.
We have had a few suggestions of new routes in other NW counties and welcome more even suggestions for races for next year and beyond.
Points to consider with proposed new routes include adequate parking, land permission as well as a suitable off-road route, volunteers. More will be discussed at the meeting.

Entries are now open for the Benbulben (Luke's Bridge) event which is the FINAL event in the IMRA North West league 2023 taking place this Saturday 12th of Aug. This is an open-mountain race to the summit of the iconic Benbulben from Luke's Bridge trailhead (Binn Ghulbain, meaning 'Gulban’s peak' or 'jaw-shaped peak').

This spectacular route is about 9 km in total length with elevation gain of around 400m. There is also a Junior Route (U16,U18) option which will be the same as the Short Course.

Luke's Bridge is a popular location for tourists and hikers but is a narrow road with little parking and is used by multiple farmers. For that reason, registration and prizegiving will take place in Grange Parochial Hall (F91 Y880) and a bus will shuttle runners to/from Luke's Bridge. See below link to the race page for further instruction and registration details.

CALL OUT FOR VOLUNTEERS

Hi everyone, the final race of the IMRA North West League (Benbulben Luke's Bridge) is happening next Saturday 12th of August.

As of now we are low in volunteers and these races can't happen without your help. If you are available, please add yourself as a volunteer or message the forum on link below and please spread the word among friends. (option for both running and non-running volunteers)

We are also planning to have an end of league get-together after the race, with food and drink; more details to come but make sure to be there either way!🥳

IMRA North West are delighted to be taking part in HER Outdoors week to promote and encourage more women to try out trail running. Please spread the work, this is a great opportunity for women to come and see what it is all about.
Great opportunity for those taking on the warriors run to learn some tips for the downhill section.
Try on trail shoes with RunPod Sligo and enjoy a pizza afterwards.
Run will be an easy paced 5km with lots of stops for technique tips.
Suitable for all levels, social evening with some running 🙂

All Runners MUST carry/wear a rainproof jacket for the entirety of the race. Any runner found not to be carrying the mandatory jacket will be disqualified. This is for health and safety reasons. We will be checking!

As an update, the Benbulben race has now been rescheduled to Saturday the 12th of August, this will be the last race in the North West League 2023.

For those that have volunteered for the original date, can you please check your availability for the 12th August. If you cannot make it can you please take your name off the list or message the IMRA forum (link below).

Entries for the Benbulben (Luke's Bridge) event will be postponed until further notice.

Unfortunately there is still no news from the ongoing search for this young man, David Slanina. As this point, we feel it is not appropriate to go ahead with plans for the race this coming Saturday up Benbulben. We don't want to take any focus from the efforts to locate him, hopefully safe and sound.

We will reschedule the race and announce the new date when it's decided upon.

For now our thoughts are with David, his family, the many locals and members of the mountain rescue teams involved in the search efforts.

Entries for the Benbulben (Luke's Bridge) event will not open this morning as planned. This is due to an ongoing search for a missing 22-year-old man since Saturday evening. Luke's Bridge and surrounding area are primary active areas for the search and include mountain rescue teams. Currently entries are pushed to tomorrow at 9:00, we will review the situation and send further updates as needed. Hopefully he is found safe and well today.

Rescue team continues search for missing Sligo man David Slanina An extensive search operation is continuing to find the 22-year-old Sligo man David Slanina, who went missing on Saturday evening.

Carrowkeel, Co Sligo hosts third run of the off-road league race The third run of the IMRA Northwest Off-Road league took place on Sunday. The route, just under 10km took runners along the Miners Way and Historical Trail up across the Bricklieve Mountains over to the cairns of Carrowkeel. It started from the Ballinafad side, straight into a 1km climb towards the....

The 4th race of the IMRA North West League will take place on the beautiful Benbulben(Luke's Bridge) , Saturday 15th of July.

Online entries will open on 11th July and will close 14th July at 6pm. Strictly no entries allowed on the day.

Important to note ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL NEED TO REGISTER IN GRANGE BEFOREHAND. A bus will transport participants from Grange village to Luke's Bridge. Due to a lack of parking space and popularity for hikers, there will NOT be any parking available at Luke's Bridge. There will be two trips out and back. There is ample parking in Grange village, including a large car park across the road from the registration location at Grange Parochial Hall (Eircode F91 Y880

REGISTRATION: All runners must sign in prior to race start in Grange Village. Registration will open at 9:15 am and will close at 10.15 am. The 10:15 closing will ensure all remaining runners can board the bus and get to the start line in time for race director instructions. The first bus trip will depart at approx. 9:45 am, the final bus trip will depart promptly at 10:25 am. The run will start at 11:00 am.

As always ALL Runners MUST carry/wear a rainproof jacket for the entirety of the race. Any runner found not to be carrying the mandatory jacket will be disqualified.

IMRA relies on volunteers to organise races and we are currently short on volunteers for this event . If you're free can you please volunteer by signing into the IMRA site and adding your name on the list (option for non-running and running volunteers)
