Big thank you to Tesco Ireland Sligo for having us as a chosen charity recently and the cheque for €391 which will go towards annual insurance and maintenance of the Playground. Hi everyone. You may have noticed recent improvements to our playground, with a new wheelchair accessible trampoline, resurfacing, a new balance beam, interactive panels, a new biodiversity sign, new fencing and maze panels and new planting of bulbs and fruit trees. With your help we raised €5k to match fund to avail of a Clár application for €45k Sligo County Council and this covered all the improvements.

We need funding every year for insurance, maintenance and general upkeep and hoping that you can support us again with any small donation to help us maintain the playground to a high standards. Thanks everyone, from the Playground Committee.

Bulb planting in the Park and playground this Thursday from 9.30am to 1.30pm with students from 3rd to 6th class. All help gratefully received - and if anyone also has a bulb planter (ideally one of the stand up ones) could you bring it along or lend it for the morning. North Sligo Playground Enhancement works start today so there will be disruption to the play areas this month.

We are delighted to confirm a new trampoline and balance beam will be installed, wetpour repaired and cable replaced for zip wire along with fencing upgrades.

Special thanks to Sligo County Council and funding as well as everyone who donated for the playground maintenance. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Special thanks to Sligo County Council for providing funding through a community grant to enable North Sligo playground procure a drive on lawnmover. It had its maiden voyage with a very capable driver Cllr Marie Casserly recently. This investment reduces the fundraising burden of the committee. Thanks also to our TUS workers who assist in cutting and keeping the park tidy.

Thanks to everyone who helped out today, in the village and estates and on Streedagh Beach too and our friends who go out regularly picking up rubbish in the area. All very much appreciated. Our two wonderful Olympic Finalists will be making an official homecoming on Saturday evening to arrive in Grange at about 6pm.

This has been difficult to organise as Chris will just be flying in on Saturday afternoon and Mona is flying out to the USA again in the early hours of Sunday.

5:35pm Arrive outside Rathcormac School wave from cars

5:45pm Pass through Drumcliffe (Yeats Tavern) wave to supporters

6:00pm Pass through Grange and wave to crowds from cars

6:15pm Arrive in Cliffoney and turn at end of village for return journey to Grange

6:30pm Arrive at Gilroy's car park for socially distanced reception, short speeches and presentation

KINGSBRIDGE COMMUNITY FUND SUPPORTS LOCAL PLAYGROUND IN GRANGE CO SLIGO

Kingsbridge Private Hospital donates funds to maintain upkeep of local play park in Grange.

Kingsbridge Private Hospital on Garden Hill in Sligo has donated 2000 euro from their Community Fund to North Sligo Playground based in Grange.
The Playground has been opened now for around 9 years with a small group of parents volunteering as a committee to manage all aspects of maintaining it themselves which includes cutting the grass, planting flowers, equipment repair, insurance and keeping the playground to a high and safe standard.

Cllr Marie Casserly, the Committee Chairperson was delighted to accept the donation on behalf of the group and convey their thanks to Kingsbridge.
“The donation couldn’t have come at a better time as fundraising has been extremely difficult, especially during Covid and restrictions. With no direct funding supports, we have always fundraised ourselves through bag packing at the local supermarket, cake sales, road races and approaching local businesses to see if they can help.

“It is a great facility used by local schools and people passing through from Donegal, so we are very proud of it. It has integrated aesthetically well into the surrounding park and has also consolidated Grange village, attracting many visitors, increasing tourism and business. Our community has been fantastic supporting us, but this 2000 euro has just been a bonus”, said Cllr Casserly.

Jennifer McLaughlin, General Manager at Kingsbridge Private Hospital in Sligo was delighted that the hospital Community Fund could get behind such a project.
“The playground in Grange, north Sligo looks like such a well-used space and I’m told by our own staff who bring their children along daily to enjoy the amenities, that it’s an invaluable focal point for children to meet, play and develop their physical, emotional, and social skills”.
