What a wonderful day we had last Sunday watching our Juniors play at their end of season Junior Championships. On the day we had lots of smiles, a few tears, but most importantly loads of fun.
All the kids got a taste of tournament squash, winning and losing, but no matter what shaking hands at the end of each match and thanking the referee.
Thanks so much to all the parents for supporting our junior academy during the season, thanks also to Elenka for the food, cakes on the day. Massive shout out to Fiona for organising the coaching sessions for Sunday's and the organised play and thanks also to Jimmy, John and Colm for their coaching during the season.
Lastly and very important we would like to thank our sponsor Rose Confectionary for their kind support, we really appreciate it when past members get involved and make a contribution to the continued success of our junior academy.
Our club championships this year was a little unique for us and provided great balance across the club with Juniors playing in with seniors, a women's only section and a junior section all lumped in with the senior A B and C. ๐ขโซ
It was disappointing to see Waterford draw in the Hurling, but there were no draws in Celtic Squash Club. Lots of competitive matches on display and it was great to have Alfie Hale Sports sponsoring the tournament.๐
In the Junior section Jamie Morrissey won a tight game against Harry Knox. ๐ช
In the Men's C Robin Doyle has the bragging rights for the year as club champion. ๐
In the men's B it was great too see young Junior Nathan Walsh win a tight battle against Maria O'Brien. ๐
The women's section didn't disappoint with Helen McGrath having to call on all her experience against a very determined Katie Dunphy, this was one of many matches that went to 5 games, and with Helen 2 down she made a comeback after a change of tactics to win 3-2. ๐ช
In the A Final Kevin Knox beat Brian Foley 3-0 to claim his 14th title and to cap things off he gets to keep the trophy, an excellent record for Kevin and one that will be hard to beat. ๐
With lots of Juniors knocking close on his heels it might be even better to claim a couple more, but we have to wait and see.โ
Overall, we were delighted with the way the weekend went, big shout out to Susan for the great food over both days and to all the referees and most importantly to all the players who supported this event, until next year.๐๐
Our annual club championships is on this weekend, call in about 6pm to see who's going to win this beauty.
