I have €50 cash in my pocket. Going to a restaurant I pay the €50 cash for dinner. The restaurant owner then uses the €50 cash to pay for the laundry. The laundromat owner then uses the €50 cash to pay the hairdresser. The hairdresser will use the €50 cash for shopping. After an unlimited number of payments, it will still remain €50 cash, which fulfills its function for anyone who uses it for payment, and no need for banks on every cash transaction.

BUT if I had paid the restaurant digitally, the bank charges a 3% fee for my payment transaction, which is €1.50. After 30 digital transactions the initial €50 will become €5 and the remaining €45 is property of the banks thanks to digital transactions.

Paying in cash gives you freedom, control and privacy.

The Irish Hairdressers Federation is disappointed at the Governments decision to increase VAT by 4.5% in for Hairdressing Services from February 2023.

A decision that will devastate small businesses.

Lisa Eccles, Vice President of the Irish Hairdressers Federation, said; ‘’The Vat increase will be a 4.5% increase on prices for consumers, on top of inflation. It is totally short-sighted how the Government could consider this while the VAT rate for hairdressing in many European countries is 5%"

A new grant offering financial support of 50% (up to €500) towards the cost of wigs, hairpieces or hair replacement systems due to illness will be introduced under the Treatment Benefit scheme (June 2022)

Currently medical card holders with alopecia can access a grant of up to around €440, but those without the card do not receive financial support.
