I've been teaching yoga for 17yrs and practicing longer. My background includes bodywork, I'm a Social Care Worker and engaged in a Masters degree in Pluralistic Psychotherapy. Here, in this blog, I explore the intersections of these modalities.
This integrated approach—rooted in presence, awareness, and choice—has the potential to be profoundly transformative. Three classes that will provide you with the tools to practice responsively to what you need in each practice.
Bring your yoga practice onto your mat…at home, and apply movement and pace to meet your needs reflexively. Many times we can view yoga practice as a routine we need to practice for it to constitute a yoga practice. The pressure and time that this take can become a barrier to practicing at all. Yoga integrates dynamic movement patterns, stances, seats, breathing (both mindfully and consciously – and yes they are different), and quiet meditative contemplation or directive tools to focus the mind. That’s a lot to ask of each and every practice.
The approach I like to take is to look at the ways I can access these qualities over longer periods of time so that the breadth of the practice over a week for example touches upon these elements rather than squeezing them all into one practice.
Having said that, I invite you to watch for “cherry picking” only those elements that you’re good at or like, and repeating only these and avoiding those that bring up challenges. The challenging ones are opportunities to be curious and learn about our avoidance of them and to start to touch upon, hover at the edge of tolerance of them rather than run from them. A caveat of this is sitting “mindfully” when trauma exists and triggers painful or intrusive thoughts or memory. There are many effective alternatives to approach building a window of tolerance and training the mind to disengage with “fusion” to painful or disturbing memories or thoughts.
This is Not a one size fits all practice, it is dynamic, creative, responsive… if you have a set of tools you can use for the right occasion. This 3 week session of classes will focus on:
Week one:
Warm ups and seats, mindful vs conscious breathing
Week two:
Strength and flow, active practices to entrain the mind
Week three:
Somatic movement for recovery and for getting deeply in touch with your body and breath, gratitude practice.

Join me for yoga classes this May in Wexford. This is not only a process of movement to resolve chronic tension in the body. It is an opportunity to build strength and stability. Beyond this are the benefits of down and up regulation of the nervous system via breath work, that establishes a space for healing conditions to occur. Addressing dysfunctional breathing patterns and establishing healthy ones directly affects the body and brain/nervous system) helping to cultivate agility and ability to adapt reflexively to life circumstances (resilience).

This class is suited to those with experience of the practice. This is a dynamic practice incorporating stances, flow and seats. The movement patterns utilised are those naturally beneficial for mobility and strength, both linear, spiralling, weight bearing and balancing. Movement is threaded on the breadth avoiding forceful or unnatural breathing patterns. The intention is to entrain the mind, yolking body, breath and mind to attain integration, space and grounding.
Open Level (suitable for beginners)
This class lays the foundations of the movement patterns, cultivation of breath awareness, practice of paying attention in the moment, experience of embodiment, an introduction to mantra... all of which encompass the practice of yoga. Absolutely, establishing a solid grounding in the foundational principles of yoga practice is essential for safe, integrated, and intelligent progress.
