So sad. One of my best friends in the world of contemporary circus. I will miss our correspondence. A great inspiration to me and my work. My thoughts are with the family and so many artists and friends around the world. It is sadly on times like these that my deep connection to the contemporary circus community around the world is felt so strongly. Loss is also a way to connect.

We are very sad to share the news that Jan Rok Achard, one of the very first FEDEC presidents, passed away yesterday. Jan was a pioneer in the circus arts world and contributed so much to the recognition of contemporary circus. It is a big loss. All our thoughts are with his family and friends. 🕊️

Finally the green

* בקראוון - קל יותר לשמור על פוקוס. המחשבה מתחדדת, קל להתרכז, בלי ללכת לאיבוד - פיזית כמו גם במחשבה.

* סדר הוא לא בעיה. שומרים על מינימליזם, בלי מאמץ, פשוט כי יש מעט מקום שמתמלא בדברים החשובים באמת.

* בבית על גלגלים, הקשר הקרוב לחוץ, לאדמה, לטבע, יש לו השפעה בריאה, חיובית, מנטלית, ריגשית ופיזית.

They say circus is the art of the impossible. Strange people on the fringes of society trying feats that seem impossible. By doing them, they defy that statement, of course. The impossible becomes possible. Still, what seems impossible is rarely tried, but is it really impossible?
I think it's a question of faith. Nothing indicates something is possible before you try doing it. If you succeed, you know it is. If not, you need to keep trying and not lose faith. (like Roger Bannister’s first 4 minute Mile)

אומרים שקרקס הוא אמנות הבלתי אפשרי. אנשים מוזרים בשולי החברה שמנסים דברים שנראים בלתי אפשריים. כשהם עושים את הדברים האלה, ההגדרה הזו כבר לא נכונה כמובן. הבלתי אפשרי הופך לאפשרי. בכל זאת, את מה שנראה בלתי אפשרי, אף אחד כמעט לא מנסה לעשות. אבל האם זה באמת בלתי אפשרי?

How much of a self-leader are you?
To what extent do you control your time and energy?

For the better part of my life, I was a trapeze artist, lone traveler, and a woman. Three things that have you contemplate about toughness, resilience, and your ability to endure. I did keep at it for 25 years, which says something, I wonder what 🙂
In any case I find that self leadership was at the foundation of it all. I called it self discipline, but when I think of it now - it was self leadership.
Choosing my way, as unpopular as it was at the time, maybe even because of that, and then for 25 years controlling my time and energy accordingly.

עד כמה אתה שולט בזמן ובאנרגיה שלך?

בחלק עיקרי מחיי הייתי אמנית טרפז, נוודת בודדת, ואישה. שלושה דברים שגורמים לי לחשוב על קשיחות, עמידות, וכושר סיבולת. המשכתי עשרים וחמש שנה, אני מניחה שזה אומר משהו, אני תוהה מה 🙃
בכל מקרה, אני מוצאת שהנהגה עצמית הייתה בבסיס של כל זה. קראתי לזה משמעת עצמית, אבל כשאני חושבת על זה עכשיו - זו הייתה הנהגה עצמית.
בחירת הדרך שלי, ככל שלא הייתה פופולרית באותה תקופה, אולי אפילו בגלל זה ואז במשך 25 שנה לשלוט בזמן ובאנרגיות שלי בהתאם.

Since I read this question a few weeks ago, I have kept thinking about it. And since I’ve been thinking about it, I figured out an answer I am pretty happy with, not a complete one, but it makes me feel I’m on my way.

The only thing is, where to find this kind of people? I am a practical person, always have been. I also think it’s important.
The people you hang out with can and should be a strong, positive power towards becoming your future self.

My stay at ON was truly transformative: I had the luxury of spending quiet time in a beautiful location. The location is perfect: plenty of space, a fully furnished kitchen, a very cozy and trendy caravane to sleep in... it is a phenomenal space.

Orit is such a friendly host, who always went the extra mile to help me navigate my stay in Israel. She suggested places to visit, helped me deepen my understanding of the culture, the food...

I strongly recommend any artists who may need a supportive space for their work to visit ON.
