My Top 10 Tips to Better Summer Skin:

As we move into the summer months and sound, colour, and life return to our beautiful city, I can't wait to spend more in the fresh air and sunlight doing the things I love.

However, warmer air, intense sun, and higher humidity can complicate our skincare - what worked in winter to fight dryness might not be working in hotter temperatures.

Because warmer weather naturally means more sebum (oil) and sweat - clogged pores, breakouts, and irritation are common summer ailments.

To help you maintain beautiful, clean, and clear skin this summer, I've written down some of my top hot weather tips:

1) Don't over-wash or exfoliate your skin - even though you really want to!
It might seem counterintuitive, but overdoing it with cleansing will have the opposite effect of keeping blemishes and oil at bay.

2) Ditch granulated cleansers
These little buggers can cause micro-tears in your skin, resulting in many problems.

3) Use lighter moisturizers or hybrid serum-based moisturizers
Whereas we focus on hydration in the dryer months of winter, summer is all about sun protection and oil control to minimize clogged pores and breakouts.

4) Antioxidant serums
work wonders to hydrate your skin. They protect you from environmental damage, help to boost collagen, and scavenge free radicals to prevent damage.

5) Tone
Maintain ph levels to keep oil production and blemishes at bay.

6) Wear sunscreen
In case you haven't, please invest in decent protection.
You will thank yourself later.

7) Avoid deep chemical peels
You want to steer clear of intense treatments that make you more vulnerable to sun exposure, as tempting as they can be.

8) Switch to a lighter foundation
Don't suffocate your skin. The fewer layers we have on during the hot weather, the better. More is less with skincare.

9) Avoid sunburn; if you can't, then treat it
We all know the feeling of tight, sensitive, swollen skin after being in the sun for too long.
If you happen to get stuck in the sun and develop a burn, the least you can do is treat it with soothing products to moisturize and protect the skin while it heals.

10) DRINK WATER
Drink water before your coffee. Ideally, drink two-three glasses as soon as you wake up. While this is last on the list, it should be first in priority. The innumerable benefits of simply drinking sufficient water throughout the day far outnumber even the best skincare routine.
