Now this isnt to say there isnt intelligence to seeking the quick fixes- it makes sense. ‘Cheap’ dopamine or checking instagram, whatsapp, a hit of sugar… they arent the cause of the issue they are a solution.

Youre doing your best…

And - if theres just enough support, enough sleep, enough nourishment- you will have more agency and choice to choose the options that fill you up more deeply.

YES 🙌🏼 and ofcourse there is more to it… so much more than just how and what you eat but also your behavioral choices in general- are you spending your days frozen or forcing or in alignment with your needs and nature.

What you eat, how you move, how connected you are, the time spent on technology all greatly impact your ability to be resilient and regulate and live with aliveness and clarity.

Just because weve become used to a fractured and collectively wounded society — doesnt mean it has to be that way.

Just because isolated hustle has become common- doesnt mean that is the only way.

Just because everyone in your family or environment till now encouraged you to be self reliant- doesnt mean that is how you will thrive.

And whats between you and a shifted reality?
Unprocessed and undigested old experiences and patterns of relationship.

Happy birthday to me , to my mother becoming. 4 years ago on the solar calendar- MIA was born, and i rebirthed myself. I close my eyes and it is as if it is now, and it is centuries ago.

My eyes wander over pictures of the past, of those sacred hours, days, of my newly born self. Emotions bubble up and subsidee… its surreal.

I remember her coming into my arms. I remember the rush and the aha and the wake- i awoke to my being …

And each day after that commenced a new part of my journey as a human. The upleveling , the pain, the discomfort, the purposee…

The birth of my first child was a point of collapse in my system and also the birth of everythiny that i am today.

Prior to then, i had been struggling with anxiety for years. With gut health issues and autoimmune conditionss… and glucose issues (i didnt name it at the time).. then in came the adrenal imbalances, chronic fatigue and anxiety, hpa access dysfunctionn… nervous system dysregulation.

I was exhausted, overwhelmed, burnt, disconnected, frozen- with random apparences of hope or creativity. I thought- how is wveryone else doing this?

And i learnt to crawl, climb, and stand. I became a toddler again, and did it differently this time. I reparented those young parts, through the blessing i guidance of others , i found myself. I came back to mee…

Slowly slowly, i can get there fast.

And here i am today, a testimony to my journey. Filled with health and aliveness, resilience and light. And most importantly - connected and resourced.

The greatest gift i can give my little ones.

One of my most hated sayings since i becwme a mom was people telling me it goes by in a blink of wn eye. Or appreciate it while its there- or the assumptions that i would not be present for any of itt….

The truth is though- i was as present as i could be.

And the moment we start to try to be in the moment, that is when we lose the momentt….

So i invite you , whereever you are in your life, to resource and nourish yourself. Connecting with others and banding together is a sign of health… and know that if it feels too hard to be present with where you are- there is intelligence there healing to be held.

But seriously- how much time do you spend obsessing over things for your healing- and missing the undertone of your life? Is there slowness? Time to reset and heal? connection? These are the real questions to sit with.

One of my favorite nervous system practices is to lay down on the floor and invite my kids to lay down next to me or on top of me. And in that space we connect, we rest, and we regulate.

Weaving regulating practices into daily life is nit only powerful but so necessary as a busy parent. Weve got so much on our plates… and we can be so easily swept up in the Parts of us that feel chronic urgency and activation… it takes a lot to be able to settle.

And when we cant settle, there is likely undigested experiences of the past- parts that are frozen in an old time- the messages NOT SAFE, or an ERROR page keep coming up. There is no error there, only coping.

So by cultivating spaciousness and moments of rest, by building this ability to BE there— we can deeply take pleasure and enjoy these moments- in the moment. Resting into it, soaking it up. This becomes more and more possible as we can come back into the body through the healing process.

If that is on your heart today- even if your heart feels numb or frozen- i am holding that with you.

People often ask me
- how do u do it?
- How do u manage life and rest well and workout?
The truth is i dont do what most people do with their health- cajole and force themselves into things.
I definitely used to do this-
The workout felt too hard? Push through.
The meal prep was too draining? Do it anyways. Meditating can only happen if its proper and long.

My journey has led me to finding more curiousity and consistency in FINDING what could work THAT still meets my body’s needs for health and energy.

This is the opposite if our hustle culture - what i believe to be a collective wounding , an ecosystemic issue that we coexist in.

So the JUST DO IT culture pushes us to override our bodys boundaries. Instead of learning to TUNE in and listen and adapt from there. TO TAILOR your life to meet the needs of your nervous system as much as possible.

So THIS does not mean- oh im cranky , so i wont move my body today- there is a difference between listening in, and becoming taken over by the body.
FOR EXAMPLE 💥 if a workout feels too hard- have you eaten enough protein? That cna make all the difference. And IGNORING your bodys cues can cause you tovmiss that INFO. Which is not suprise as how many of us were brought up feeling our bodies?
I listen in- im tired- so how can i adapt my movement to meet this need?

This is why i love platform because i can find a workout to meet my nervous system where its at and through out she speaks about adapting while maintaining a bit of push. In these summer days majority of my workouts are SHORT nad done supine. I still get plenty of tissue and muscle stretch, but it doesnt feel daunting. I dont need to grind through.

And i dont need to skip it altogether.

I take this approach with much of my health- how can i adapt this to meet me where im at , without losing the whole thing?

Does it mean doing 15 min increments and seeing how i feel? Does it mean increasing my protein on extra challenging days? Does it mean laying down with my kids and allowing myself to notice my body and breath for 5 minutes?

When we believe we have no time to energetically digest , we perpetuate the original pattern.

What is aliveness?

In a disembodied culture, so many of us feel cut off from our aliveness. From our truths. A collective wounding. Weve forgotten and we remember through experiencing. Once we taste it , we remember and want more.

Is there a focus on what you take out /eliminate?

Is there a focus on whats being put in/nourishment?

How resourced are you? Do you have layers of support or are you somewhat alone in that?

Do you have a village of some sort?

When you are feeling off what do you feel drawn to as medicine?
Are you forgetting the simpler of things that truly do heal?

Are you including those fundamental basic pieces of humanness and healing-

There is an extra aliveness that’s entered my life since ive been engaged with plunges. 🧊

Is it the cold and hormonal cascade that comes with that?
Maybe.
Is the fact that ive been able to decondition and tune in more to what my body and spirit are saying?
MAYBE.
Could it be I sleep better at night with cold exposure, and so with better sleep comes better moods?
Maybe.
Is is because i’ve reset my circadian rhythm and adrenal hormones through focus on sunrise and sunset exposure?
MAYBE
Is it because of finished projects, and loving relationships?
Maybe.

Maybe it is all of these things… and maybe just maybe, the ice plunges have expanded my being, on a cellular level, so that I can be more open and awake to these subtle shifts in my life and thereby expanding them.

Likely it is a combo of it all.. nor does it really matter. All I can say is that my heart is open and my body awake on newer levels than i could imagine.

Healing is about mind-body-spirit. It is about leaning in and listening to the intelligence of protection. Of expanding the resource that makes way for unburdening of parts. It is about the physiology. About nourishment. And about love.
And i wish all of this for YOU.

Youre not broken, your physiology has been mismanaged.

We cannot talk about anxiety and the nervous system without including nutrition.

I help people find their way back to wellness utilizing the whole of them. Understanding that food is medsaging on a cellular level- letting us know if we should release a stress response or not.

I also help therapists and coaches in this way- finding ways to transform their wellness habits and nutrition to support and nourish their nervous systems to be a vehicle for co regulation.

Like hey huh- i see that.
I see how it is….. and say YES to your experience.

YES i feel this way.
YES i am feeling a big feeling.
Yes I am reacting or responding to it in this way also….
That makes sense ….

And what comes next?
Is there a way ti invite an adult presence to the parts party?
Is there a controlking going on - of - i wont do this or have this reaction…. That is just another form of protector.

There needs to be enough safety and presenve to hold these interactions with compassion and care for things to shift. Often this can be cultivated through working with others who bring this regulation.

I once had a full-time private practice that was 100% nutrition based - way before I went into coaching or somatic therapy.⁠

I learned from this how biochemical our moods are and how much our blood sugar plays a part in our ability to think clearly, have capacity for difficult moments, and regulate after stressful events.⁠

Instead of asking the questions: “What’s wrong with me?” try to ask the question “When was the last time I ate?”.⁠

In our house we have a rule that we discuss nothing of importance if we are hungry or tired.⁠

I remember when I was studying Psych in college we were shown a study on juries. It turned out that juries who gave their verdicts *before* they ate lunch were less compassionate and open-minded, often finding people guilty.⁠

Juries who gave their verdicts after lunch were more clear-headed and grounded and could make a better informed decision.⁠

Notice this for yourself. Even more, notice how it FEELS in your body when you haven’t eaten and then when you finally eat something that isn’t steeped in sugar.⁠

Sometimes, managing stress and healing trauma is simply about maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.⁠

From there, your body will have more capacity to experience stress, disappointment, pain, and even joy.⁠

I have a part of me that clings to this holiday, not wanting it to go. Wanting to make the most of the last bits of its presence. I want to stay in its warmth, its sheer depth, its burning lights.

Generally i used to try to keep religious practices and rituals off of my page. Keep it to the healing topic…. But the truth is the mire i feel into it the more i see just how important these rituals are within the healing process.

Currently i am taking a course with on spirituality within the healing process. How it is an integral part. It is what enlivens us and can help gets us through the most challenging of times. It is throughh these rituals that we can connect to our inner most true selves. To feel the aliveness pulsating throuh us. An elevation of the mundane— concepts known all to well to the chassidic traditions…..

And so here i am— clinging to chanuka lights.
Hold me, i ask them.
Hold me tight.
All the while a part of me knowing this is part of the process.
Phrases of the Hallel floating in my heart and mind….

Today is the day that was made as it is meant to be , i can rejoice on it.

I can rejoice and connect to the infinite light as i am a spark and piece of that… and that is the kind of light i choose to follow in my lifr. And

I praise Him as he is good, infinitrly good and gracious.

That graciousness can hold me….

And from there comes the miraculousness and the wholesomeness…

Eating is a relational experience. It’s like a conversation between your body and the food.⁠

Your body is learning about the land where that food comes from.⁠

It’s learning about what nutrients from the food it can use to give you support your life.⁠

And it’s learning what cannot be used, what you don’t need, or what might even harm you.⁠

Our digestive systems will inflame when a food enters them that is not helpful to the body.⁠

This can be experienced as constipation, loose stools, IBS, bloating, and nausea.⁠

This is how your gut says no to these foods.⁠

It’s important to mention that these symptoms can also happen when you’re changing your diet or detoxifying.⁠

The metabolic waste from a detox, as well as a new food, can create inflammation.⁠

The difference here is that the body is asking to go slow, to take small steps, and then the inflammation will subside.⁠

When it’s coming from foods that are harmful, the inflammation doesn’t subside. It continues and then turns into chronic illness.

Im not sure i totally agree. I do believe that undigested experiences can cause us to live in a state of survival and THIS triggers high histamine responses. Not necessarily about boundaries and yet theres something here thats interesting to contemplate…

Posted • All this talk about a “dysregulated nervous system” or a “hypervigilant nervous system”, which is great: more people are talking about this important issue we address in functional medicine. There are physiological and physiological factors that can dysregulate the nervous system. Both need to be addressed for a calm, balanced, grounded nervous system. Mental health is not separate physical health. It is physical health.

So many emotions in each day….

So much energy building…

Lots of deep sighs, lots of frustrations, lots of awe, lots of everythings.

And can i just be with this?

Without trying to change it … can i be with whatevers here?

Hold space for it?

And if i dont have the energy for that, if im too overwhelmed or too tired, can i rest ? And hold my parts in my heart , letting them know ill come back to it soon, or reach out to another resource for holding?
