Chemical Engineering is a branch of engineering that applies the natural (or experimental) sciences (e.g. chemistry and physics) and life sciences (e.g. biology, microbiology and biochemistry) together with mathematics and economics to produce, transform, transport, and properly use chemicals, materials and energy. It essentially deals with the engineering of chemicals, energy and the processes that create and/or convert them. Modern chemical engineers are concerned with processes that convert raw-materials or (cheap) chemicals into more useful or valuable forms. In addition, they are also concerned with pioneering valuable materials and related techniques – which are often essential to related fields such as nanotechnology, fuel cells and bioengineering. Within chemical engineering, two broad subgroups include design, manufacture, and operation of plants and machinery in industrial chemical and related processes ("chemical process engineers") and development of new or adapted substances for products ranging from foods and beverages to cosmetics to cleaners to pharmaceutical ingredients, among many other products ("chemical product engineers").

ABOUT COLLEGE
Raja Balwant Singh College, Agra formerly known as Balwant Rajput College, is known for its phenomenal epoch making progress. This institution started as a small boarding house for 20 students, way back in 1885 in the out house of "The Kotla House" in Bagh Farzana Area of Civil Lines, Agra. The credit for the same goes to Late Raja Balwant Singh ji, Ruler of Awagarh Estate and the Founder of this institution, to get the Boarding House recognised as High school in 1899, from where the first batch of students appeared at the Matriculation examination of Allahabad University in 1901.The High School was raised to level of an Intermediate College in 1928 and to that of a degree college in 1940.
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology, R.B.S college, Bichpuri(Agra) was started in the year 1996 with three branches of engineering viz., Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Food Technology and was affiliated to Dr. B.R.Ambedkar University, Agra. The branch of Chemical Engineering was added in the year 1999. From the year 2000, the F.E.T was affiliated to Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU), Lucknow established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh on 8th May 2000 vide Act No. 1248(2)XVII-V-I-I-19-2000 Uttar Pradesh Adhiniyam Sankhya 23 of 2000. In the year 2004, two more branches of Biotechnology and Mechanical Engineering were started and the intake of the existing branches of CS and EC was raised form 60 to 90 each and in FT and CHE the intake was increased form the existing 40 to 60 each.. In the year 2006, M.Tech course in Food Technology was started with an intake of 18 seats.
The Faculty of Architecture & Town Planning and the Faculty of Pharmacy was added from the academic session 2011-12 for the B.Arch and B.Pharma Courses . The intake of B.Tech (Biotechnology) was increased from the initial 30 seats to 60 seats. The institute has got permission from AICTE to open two new courses of B.Tech in Electrical Engineering and B.Tech in Civil Engineering with an intake of 60 seats each and the permission for start of M.Tech course in Electronics and Communications with 18 seats from the forthcoming academic session 2012-13. All these courses are approved by the AICTE.
The AICTE , State Government and Mahamaya Technical University (MTU), Noida has conveyed the approval of the council to integrate the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning into one campus and officially changed the name of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, R.B.S College, Bichpuri, Agra into the name of Raja Balwant Singh Engineering Technical Campus, Bichpuri, Agra (UP)-283105.

With the two new faculties now, Raja Balwant Singh Engineering Technical Campus is having three units as:
Faculty of Engineering and Technology
Faculty of Pharmacy
Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning.
