The Learning Community
An adventure of applied research on the practice of Integral Education. TLC is an adventure of applied research on the practice of Integral Education.
We would like to support children to keep the sacred, magical feelings and perceptions they have naturally; and allow them to express and explore this sense of connectedness.
Open Spaces is what we call the sessions we offer to welcome everyone, not just our community members.
Here the lovely Friday afternoons for children with various activities including clay, crafts and games. ✨
Growing in TLC ❤️ … here are the smallest members of our community. We are in the process of doing a research study with our alumni, who are now in the age of 15-25, and look forward to learning from their journeys. ✨✨✨
So many amazing projects out there with similar aspirations, practices and the courage to dare to reimagine education. ❤️

As an ✨educational research project ✨in Auroville, we have the responsibility to actively study how to take principles of Integral Education from theory into practice.
How do we redesign education for ❤️Human Unity ❤️and to support a sustainable development for coming generations? 💚🌱
Psychic education strives to strengthen the connection to the self. To establish a sense of inner freedom to become able to listen to and follow the deeper truth found within each person. This truth consciousness lies beyond the limitations of past conditioning and the expectations of society.
✨EDUCATION BECOMES THE PRACTICE OF FREEDOM. 💛
Self-directed learning is one of the foundations of the first principle of Integral Education, that “Nothing can be taught”. This principle also moves us away from mainstream aims on learning content knowledge, towards a discovery of the self, through a growing awareness of the operations of one’s consciousness. This in turn means that education has to be experiential and individualized, as it is only each one for themselves who can observe their inner life and Aha! moments.

Once again members of TLC are able to take part in this global extension of our Learning Community. 💚💛💕
This year hosted at the integral education school at Sri Aurobindo Yoga Mandir in Kathmandu.
The democratic education movement is bringing together practitioners of so many alternative schools, this year with special focus on Integral Education.
We look forward to sharing our research on Integral Education with others from around the world, networking, and learning from others. ❤️

Another day on this unfolding journey.
Kids in the kitchen, in the garden and in the farm is what happens through our pedagogical project “seed to plate”.
This offers endless opportunities for transdisciplinary learning, meeting the curiosity and interests of each child in a different way.
Here our Italian chef servers the meal of the day!✨❤️
The joy 🤩 of learning comes through intrinsic motivation and curiosity to know and understand the world around us.
❤️
As every year, we start with the incredibly complex task of individualized scheduling.
With every child’s different needs and interests, and our large number of facilitators, booking of different facilities, it usually takes us about a month or two to finalize the main schedule structure for the year. This year we have the added challenge that several facilitators and many families are arriving late in the term.
The children work on their Lotus Diagrams, we discuss areas of learning, and set goals both individually and collectively for the months to come.
There is so much learning through this process each year. Patience, open mindedness, flexibility, thinking out of the box, acceptance of change, and lots and lots of perseverance. We know that if we try hard enough we can find all the solutions and make it work. ❤️
It’s ✨magic ✨when we always manage to make it come together in the end.✨
One of the amazing things about our international community is experiencing the diversity of different cultures. ❤️
One of our main educational projects is food, and we love to learn what grows locally and seasonally, as well as experiencing food cultures from around the world. Here making gnocchi from Italy.
Another morning full of activity, joy and collaborative learning. 💕☀️
An educational tool developed in TLC is the Values Tree. ✨
The children decide together on a value/quality/ability/emotion that they want to bring to the forefront - now CONCENTRATION. They also decide on a common theme, such as leaves, fruits or flowers. 🌺🌱
The facilitators then prepare an introduction to the value/quality/ability/emotion, to explore together what it means and how it feels.
When the children have some time over in their days, they can use it to make the flowers that are then collected in in a jar. 100 flowers are made.
Once a week we have a sharing circle, to bring awareness to the situations during the week when we have experienced CONCENTRATION. You can give a flower to someone else or to yourself for each such observation.
After a few weeks all the hundred flowers will cover the branches of the tree. Now it’s time to celebrate, and to decide on a new value/quality/ability/emotion to fill the tree with.✨🌈✨🌈✨
And each time we complete a tree with its flowers/fruit/leaves, we plant a real tree in our tlc garden to symbolise the presence of this quality 🌺 🍎 🍁 🌳 ❤️
Adventure helps us us come together, step out of our comfort zones and try new things.
Real life is the best school, bringing the perfect opportunities to learn and grow. One of our main pedagogical tools in TLC is traveling. It builds community, brings us new experiences, and fosters curiosity, openness, flexibility, independence and care.
Some years ago TLC had the amazing opportunity to work with the Restorative Auroville team for a whole year. This work was based on developing knowledge and skills of restorative circles (RC - community-based conflict resolution), and non-violent communication (NVC).
Both adults and children learnt new tools, skills and abilities for compassionate communication, deep listening and conflict resolution.
The seeds planted by the Restorative Auroville team have grown to become an integral part of TLC’s way of working.
The “feelings and needs” cards is an increadible tool. Here used in the closing circle of the recent educational field trip to Rameswaram.
With the support of the cards, we share our feelings, needs and gratitude. 🌺

Happy Birthday beautiful Auroville 💚☀️🧡
Our educational journey in TLC is an adventure striving to research a new way living and being.
Stepping out of known patterns of schooling and instead relooking at how to work towards realizing the vision of Auroville through education.
How do I develop self-knowledge? By developing my consciousness I can recognize where my thoughts, emotions and actions are coming from and learn to live my life with increasing awareness. 💛
How do I grow and deepen my relationship with others? Through an atmosphere that encourages diversity, sees the richness in differences, and allows each one to be where they are builds the foundational values for human unity. 💙
How can I live in harmony with nature? Through balance, care and an attitude that less is more. To slow down and take in the beauty of the world. To adapt a lifestyle that does not harm nature but can contribute to its wellbeing. 💚
Through an integral education we aspire to work towards deepening our individual and collective and environmental consciousness.
To allow children to grow up to experience that there is no one truth, nor one way, but an immense possibility to transform how we understand things and do things as human beings.
Auroville is a place to research how we can become active participants in the evolution of our consciousness.
How to grow our children towards this through our example and through opportunities for their own participation in creating our shared reality is the foundation for our work.
❤️❤️❤️🔥
The Auroville birthday week is a time to come together to experience the values of Auroville as a community, out of our regular routines.
The Endangered Craft Mela is organized to bring together children from Auroville and the bioregion in learning through exploration, where consciousness is not just in the mind but in the hands.
To connect to each other and to ancient traditions and wisdom of our civilization. Skills and knowledge needed for the coming generations to create a reality in harmony with people and planet.
The Endangered Crafts Mela offers a unique opportunity for children from different schools and backgrounds to come together in learning, creativity and play.
A one week immersion to awaken curiosity, develop hand skills, make new friends, develop focus and concentration, and try new things.
A big thank you to the mela team for organizing and facilitating this amazing and magical event. 💚
Thank you for the super cool glass bottle cutting workshop.
There are so many opportunities for learning in Auroville! Learning how to Upcycle is a necessary lifeskill for children growing up in the world today. 💚
