Kashmiri lakes and their stories - This is the stunning Bandarsar, a high altitude lake in Tosamaidan-Yousmarg trek circuit. It’s gorgeous but that’s not where its charm ends. According to the legends, in the olden times when Kashmir was the abode of gods and demons, Bandarsar was the venue of a demon wedding. However, incessant rain spoiled the fun and the entire wedding party drowned in the lake with the musical band forming a little island in the middle. Incidentally Band refers to the musical band that Indians like to use in their weddings. SAR comes from the word "Sarovar" meaning lake.
