The Tub armchair, with its graceful curved back and sweeping legs, is reminiscent of the Greek styles which influenced English Regency furniture. Alone or as a set, The Tub armchair adds a touch of refined style to any space - home or office. Reach out to us for options and availability.

Our signature Chesterfields are inspired by the colonial period where the distinctive tufting and pleating seen in these pieces originated 300 years ago as a novel upholstery technique. It was created to secure loose horsehair filling, giving the sofa a more defined shape and better comfort. Though the exact origins of the Chesterfield sofa are a bit unclear, many believe it's linked to Chesterfield House (swipe left), built by Philip Stanhope (featured here), 4th Earl of Chesterfield.

At Chester’s we’ve redefined Chesterfields by putting our own twist into our fully Indian-made products that embody bespoke designs and techniques that cater to the Indian consumer whilst honouring the crosscultural exchange.

Meet the Fritzie Bar Stool – a beautifully crafted gem with natural teak legs, a brass base ring, and a comfy seat with a neat edge. Perfect for your bar or kitchen island setup, adding a touch of style to your seating!

Our expert craftsman here is seen carefully placing brass tacks along the edges of an armchair, adding both visual interest and structural integrity. This technique is a traditional method used for embellishment and reinforcement, particularly on pieces like leather sofas and armchairs. At Chester's, we honour this tradition by incorporating brass tacks into our designs where each tack is carefully hammered into place by hand, ensuring a secure and precise fit.

Our Mustache Armchair is a delightful reinterpretation of the esteemed Madame Chair. While maintaining the same form of the classic club chair, this piece introduces a playful twist with a charming roll in the arms and a distinctive moustachioed top line. Available in our signature leather finishes and colours.

Monaco Chesterfield, draped in fabric and secured with our deep buttoning technique. A contemporary piece with modern aesthetics upholstered in Client Owned Material goes well with linen cottons or cotton blends that are great for tropical summer climates. Especially ideal for our Bangalore summers as upholstery is made of breathable material that can be easily removed for dry cleaning or wash.

Cinema has had a huge influence on us - we’ve seen Chesterfields featured in movies such as James Bond and Matrix which have over the years inspired our designs. Here you can see the suave James Bond lounging in his quintessential Georgian house on a leather armchair with a striking resemblance to our Tiffany.

One of Bangalore’s oldest bookstore – Higginbothams has stood majestically on MG Road since the colonial period 1897 on MG Road close to our Infantry Road store. We draw inspiration from both and Indian and colonial designs Bangalore’s rich heritage has to offer whether its architecture, furnitures or way of living.

Featured here is a beautiful custom piece designed for a client. A unique variation of our signature armchairs this piece is upholstered with our signature dark choco shadow leather with bespoke button detailing at the bottom. The allure of our Objet range owes much to the design and skill of our craftspeople. Their creative designs inspired by the early-nineteenth century French and British architecture, and masterful handling of solid reclaimed, seasoned wood permits both the construction of enduring furnitures and variety of form that ornament each piece.

People of Chester’s

Dele Babu from Andhra is an integral member of our operation team and oversees the factory's stock and inventory. Dele has been with us for almost 8 years now, starting his career with us as an Accounts Assistant at our central Bangalore office.

Over the years Dele expressed his interest in being a part of our productions team - we formed a role tailored in the factory. He has since seamlessly integrated into Chester's, emerging as an indispensable force in our day-to-day operations.

At Chester’s we are committed to being at the forefront of the conversations shaping modernity, luxury and craft in India. By using a technique rooted in history, dating back over 200 years, we've brought new life to the generous comfort and enduring style of deep-buttoned furniture. As seen here in our Aristocrat Wing Chair, featuring statement-scrolled wings and elegant cabriole legs, the chair is available in a variety of leather finishes and colours: Laguna finish (Dark Choco, Light Choco and Wine colours), Silky finish (Walnut), Vintage finish (Black) and Rubb Off finish (Burgundy). In the Objet range, details reminiscent of Classical columns, such as the reeding along the arms, back and seat rails, elongate the forms, drawing them together and unifying the composition. Similarly, the scrolling arms and backs of some of our pieces and the details of their turned legs are suggestive of ancient architectural elements and add graceful curves to each piece, as seen here in Bergère Armchair with aged Burma teak, woven rattan and Chester’s fabric upholstery.

Over the last three decades, we’ve mastered the very technical upholstery and furniture making trade - this all down to our exceptional team of craftspeople, each contributing their unique expertise into the making of your piece.

Lata, a native of Bangalore, joined Chester’s 23 years ago and now heads our dyeing department. This involves meticulously mixing, color matching and drying procedures. Beyond her mastery in dyeing, Lata has a passion for creating rangolis. The team relies heavily on her wealth of knowledge and assistance, making her an indispensable part of our collaborative efforts.

Bangalore Winters Through Chester’s Lens - Early morning scenes near Chester’s.

The ‘Monkey Tops’ seen here on Infantry Road are one of old Bangalore relics. These sun shades over windows (usually made of vertical wooden slats) are unique to the architecture of the city’s colonial-era bungalows, and it is largely believed to be designed to prevent monkeys from getting inside the homes.

Swipe left: Shopkeepers prepare for the day’s business. A stone’s throw away from Chester’s, Central Street is a melting pot with furniture and home decor sellers from all over the city showcasing their craft and expertise inspired by cultures around the country.

Swipe left: Young couples setting up their first home and college students are spotted undecidedly walking up and down Central Street buying furniture. Once done they almost always stop by to snag a mirror for their new home, from the corner shop at the Infantry Road junction that stocks all imaginable sizes.

Meet the Diva, a stunning French-style piece from the 1920s boasting a refined profile and decorative turned teak legs. Upholstered here in a vintage lambskin (no longer in production), this chair holds a special place in our founder's vintage collection.

Shahid, our furniture polishing expert from Calcutta joined our team 5 years ago. Shahid specialises in the unique Calcutta hand polishing technique. Seen here in the image above is Shahid polishing bun feet specifically designed for our Chesterfields.

This distinctive method involves a blend of Gala and spirit, incorporating sindoor and mixed colors, ensuring an eco-friendly and non-hazardous approach. The process not only brings out the innate beauty of the wood but also allows for easy repolishing, making it a sustainable and enduring choice.

Elevated by slim, tapered teak legs, The Knight embodies a lighter, more contemporary twist on the classic Chesterfield design. The hand-stitched accents along its arms and front enhance its sculpted curves, adding to its overall allure. Our Knight seen here is upholstered in Vintage leather, Slate colour and is part of our World of Chesterfields collection currently showcased in our showroom on 91 Infantry Road, Bangalore.

Creative direction

The King Chesterfield is upholstered with Chester’s original full grain leather, stained in Ocean Blue using hand-stained and hand-dyed techniques. All processes are carried out by experts in our Peenya factory - the leather is a lightly buffed natural grain leather with a rustic distressed appearance finished in semi-gloss. The tanning gives this leather a rustic appearance.

Bangalore Winters Through Chester’s Lens.

The Embassy Riding School was set up in North Bangalore two decades ago when the surroundings were idyllic for horse riding! During the winter break, it’s a sight to see equestrians trot away as the red earth picks up the rays of the early morning sun.
