Our team visited Parikrma in Sahakarnagar on 19th December to conduct an autism sensitisation program for their students. We thank the management of Parikrma for welcoming us wholeheartedly and the students for making us beautiful thank you cards!

Great to partner with Rotary District 3190 to conduct an autism sensitisation program for Pre-university students of MES College, Vidyaranyapura on 9th Dec. Thanks to Ms. Sridevi, Principal of MES, Mr. Sunand Sampath and Mr. Sharath Namburi from RYLA.

ASHA took part in the World Disability Day event at Kanteerava Stadium organised by the Government of Karnataka.

We visited a BBMP High School in Herohalli on 11th November to conduct an autism sensitisation session for 760 students! The session was well received with the students, teachers and the principal asking questions about the condition. We thank the management of the school for having us over!

On 10th October, the team from ASHA visited Indian High School in Manjunathnagar and spoke to the students on autism and the importance of inclusion. We thank the management of the school for giving us the opportunity!

We just completed a Run+Walkathon to inaugurate a new running program for the students of ASHA. Running has many benefits - improved cardiovascular health, cuts the risk of obesity and good for the mind! Volunteers from Oracle supported us throughout the event and the 2.75 km walk around Basaveshwarnagar. A big shout out to them. Thank you to Mr. Gopaliah, MLA, Mahalakshmi Layout for inaugurating the event, Ms. Suchita Somashekariah, co-founder, Shristi Special Academy, the Bengaluru City Police and Bengaluru City Traffic Police for attending the event and ensuring smooth flow of traffic. We did things differently this Sports Day! Notice the colour, alphabet and number? We gave these cards to our students to go match and stand in their places before the start of the activity. This way, we were able to increase their independence. #

ASHA's Sports Meet was conducted on 7th October 2023 with volunteers from Optum supporting us for the event. We thank all the volunteers for taking the time on a weekend and happily supporting our children! The event went on flawlessly with great ex*****on by the staff of ASHA.

We visited the Government School in Byadarahalli, Magadi Road on 19th Sep to speak to students about inclusion. The kids were receptive and enthusiastic. Thank you to the teachers for accommodating us!

Continuing our autism awareness initiative, representatives from ASHA visited the Government High School, Saneguruvanahalli on 15th September and spoke to 300 students about autism, features and accommodating them in mainstream schools.

New initiative! Our mothers set up a tuck shop at ASHA once a week with healthy snacks such as salads, boiled sweet corn and other goodies. The students pay for these items using real money and enjoy the yummy stuff! Through this, the children learn the concept of money and purchasing items.

Students of Banjara Academy visited ASHA on 8th September 2023 to learn more about autism. The group had plenty of questions on autism and accommodating them in mainstream schools. If you would like to know more about autism and visit us, drop a mail to [email protected]

Motor abnormalities in autism encompass a range of atypical movement patterns and difficulties with motor skills. These may include difficulties with handwriting or manipulating small objects and clumsiness or poor coordination. Some individuals with ASD exhibit repetitive motor behaviours, like hand-flapping or rocking. ASHA conducted a session on motor abnormalities with Dr. Kishore K.V., Psychiatrist at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, Bangalore on 29th Aug.

Behaviour challenges are one of the common difficulties faced by parents of autistics. Poor communication, sensory problems, difficulty in adjusting to new environments are some of the reasons. To help our families, ASHA conducted a session behaviour management led by Dr. Shankar, Psychiatrist, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute on 22nd Aug. The session was interactive with plenty of questions from the parents.

Students from MES Kishore Kendra visited ASHA, played games and interacted with our students on 31st August 2023. It was heartening to see the students engaging with the children wholeheartedly. We love it when youngsters take the initiative to know more about autism; it makes our work easier and more effective.

ASHA is excited to be a partner for the Mitra Habba - a celebration of inclusion and neurodiversity on 9th September 2023 at Bangalore International Centre, Domlur, Bangalore by Mitra for Life. There'll be flea markets, workshops, panel discussions and interactive jamming sessions.

We conducted an autism sensitisation program for pre-university students of RPA College, Rajajinagar on 22nd August 2023. We are happy to be associated with them and thank them for all the support towards this initiative. We also thank Inner Wheel Club of Bangalore West for supporting us in this initiative.

We had students from Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies visit us and know more about autism on 28th July. The students had many questions and we engaged them in fun activities.
