Join us on the 20th and 21st April 2024 at our Open House where you will get to see all the activities at NPT, the hand made products we make and tasty snacks made by the women’s self help group.

We’ll also be having workshops on block printing where you’ll get to block print and take home what you made! You can also bring your t-shirts to print on! (For 16+ years)

We just completed a Run+Walkathon to inaugurate a new running program for the students of ASHA. Running has many benefits - improved cardiovascular health, cuts the risk of obesity and good for the mind! Volunteers from Oracle supported us throughout the event and the 2.75 km walk around Basaveshwarnagar. A big shout out to them. Thank you to Mr. Gopaliah, MLA, Mahalakshmi Layout for inaugurating the event, Ms. Suchita Somashekariah, co-founder, Shristi Special Academy, the Bengaluru City Police and Bengaluru City Traffic Police for attending the event and ensuring smooth flow of traffic. We did things differently this Sports Day! Notice the colour, alphabet and number? We gave these cards to our students to go match and stand in their places before the start of the activity. This way, we were able to increase their independence. #

Continuing our autism awareness initiative, representatives from ASHA visited the Government High School, Saneguruvanahalli on 15th September and spoke to 300 students about autism, features and accommodating them in mainstream schools.

New initiative! Our mothers set up a tuck shop at ASHA once a week with healthy snacks such as salads, boiled sweet corn and other goodies. The students pay for these items using real money and enjoy the yummy stuff! Through this, the children learn the concept of money and purchasing items.

Motor abnormalities in autism encompass a range of atypical movement patterns and difficulties with motor skills. These may include difficulties with handwriting or manipulating small objects and clumsiness or poor coordination. Some individuals with ASD exhibit repetitive motor behaviours, like hand-flapping or rocking. ASHA conducted a session on motor abnormalities with Dr. Kishore K.V., Psychiatrist at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, Bangalore on 29th Aug.

Behaviour challenges are one of the common difficulties faced by parents of autistics. Poor communication, sensory problems, difficulty in adjusting to new environments are some of the reasons. To help our families, ASHA conducted a session behaviour management led by Dr. Shankar, Psychiatrist, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute on 22nd Aug. The session was interactive with plenty of questions from the parents.
