Another set of Videos and Photos from the Habitat of South India's First ever Dario, Dario urops. Also the Habitat of the "Wrongly" classified as Critically Endangered Pterocryptis wynaadensis. These up stream habitats serve as nurseries for younger fish and would ideally be their grow our spots from where they would migrate downstream when they are larger in size and able to survive the numerous predators in the larger rivers.

A few sights from an older trip to document the upper reaches of the river Tunga in Karnataka.

This is the Type locality of Dario huli.

Please enjoy and share.

Leiodon cutcutia, also known as the Red Tail Puffer. A pure freshwater species, these come from the area of North Bengal in India.

Feeding here on live Tubifex Worms, these do best in medium to large aquariums with a good amount of Plant cover

They prefer to eat Frozen pr live food and will do great with addition of Snails in their diet to keep their teeth in check.

If you are looking for Well Quarantined and High Quality fish from India. Both Native Indian Fish and Captive Raised, please drop us a message and we will get back to you.

A big thanks to for sharing this beautiful poster.

On this World Aquarium Day, we wish and hope that as our Hobby and the Ornamental Aquatic Trade has contributed not only to enrich and enliven the lives of countless hobbyists and enthusiasts for well over a 100+ years, it may do for many more to come.

We are all aware of the wonderful therapeutic effect of having and looking at aquarium fish in your home, has on your health.

A great reminder of this was the Pandemic, COVID19, the Ornamental Aquatic trade grew during these tough times, as people across the world had to sit at home and go through the absolutely unimaginable trauma and stress of not just the likelihood of contracting the virus but also the utmost sadness of losing a loved or near one. An aquarium at home kept things same, gave them company in these terrible times. We are not just happy but fell privileged to have played our part however small in making these tough times a little more bearable.

This trade and hobby and it's hobbyists have also silently but surely and with great determination and sacrifice contributed to science, to the discovery and documentation of species unknown to mankind before they were found by hobbyists and/or traders. This absolute massive contribution is sadly overlooked by many Icythologists who have themselves built their names and careers using specimens from the Aquarium Hobby. But we all still march on, unaffected.

We hope and look forward to seeing many young kids take up this hobby, who sadly are bereft of the exposure to nature that our older generation was exposed to. This hobby not only will help them learn about nature but also develop a caring attitude towards animals and nature too.

Our take on the Ban and proposed Elevation of Sahayadria denisoni to the Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Act of India. Providing it the same protection as a Tiger in the Wild making a Non Bailable offence to keep them at home too.

Hope the government and can see thatbit will be impossible to ban this fish from being collected as food and will only in turn lead to harassment of local fishermen. Especially with captive breeding technology available it should have been a move to do capacity building for captive breeding and then slowly phase out wild collection.

Photos from India Gills Bangalore's post 13/01/2022

Aquarium hobbyists, please note that Sahyadria denisonii has been listed as a schedule 1 species under THE WILD LIFE (PROTECTION) AMENDMENT BILL, 2021.

No more trade in this species is allowed anymore.

AMAZON MICROCOSM - YouTube 07/09/2021

BREAKING NEWS!!!

A very valid documentary and view of the Wild Caught Trade even in India. With calls from many groups here too, this is a very timely release. Most Importantly also a call for Exporters of Wild Caught Indian Ornamental fish to collaborate and spread awareness in a similar structured manner than becoming victims of unscientific calls for bans.

The Amazon and India share the absolutely unbelievable diversity in terms of species documented. We have as an Organisation contributed to the study, discovery and description of numerous species in the past decade in collaboration with some of the brightest and most progressive minds in the field of science, worldwide.

The complete 90 minute documentary Wild Caught: Aquarium Fish Trade of the Amazon is now available for free on Youtube.
It is the first documentary to examine the ethics and consequences of the collection of tropical fish from Amazonian rivers for the international aquarium trade.

As animal right activist groups are increasing the pressure on legislators and the pet industry to ban the capture and sale of wild tropical fish species, this film is a timely and detailed investigation into the sustainability and environmental consequences of the aquarium trade in the Amazon rainforest.

Are aquarium hobbyists who buy wild caught fish helping or hurting conservation efforts?
Can the populations of tropical fish species in Amazonas survive their repeated capture and export?
Are local communities benefiting from the trade in these remote regions?
Answers to these questions are provided in this documentary by some of the worlds leading researchers, local fish capturers, exporters, international importers and conservationists. Wild Caught is essential viewing for those who wish to become educated on a controversial topic which is crucial to conservation efforts in one the worlds most important aquatic ecosystems.
See the documentary for free here …

The opportunity to release this film for free was made possible by sponsorship from Quality Marine ( USA ), Tropical Marine Centre ( UK ) and Aquatropic ( USA ).
Production was funded by both conservation organisations and businesses/organisations within the aquarium fish trade.
Conservation International, Project Piaba, International Union for the Conservation of Nature, Ornamental Aquatic Trade Association, Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft Zoologischer Fachbetriebe, American Cichlid Association, Bassleer Biofish, Segrest Farms, Ruinemans Aquarium, Aquarium Glaser, Sunbeam Aquarium, Common Sense Aquatics, Fish Mart, Aquarium Co-op, Aqueon, The Fishmongers’ Company, Freshwater Exotics, APET, Aquarium Zebra, Monster Aquarium, Carbonfund.org, The Aquarium Club of Edmonton, Mars Fishcare, Boston Aquarium Society, Richard Sneider / Earthbar, Dr. Tim Miller-Morgan, Michael & Christy Diniz Liffmann.

A thriving underwater Habitat! This tributary of Sita nadi was teeming with Pethia setnai, Haludaria fasciata and Systomus sarana.

Another type of a In-Out view. A view of the outdoors from inside water. With the humble Rasbora sp. in the background.

This is again Sita Nadi. So for the uninitiated the word Nadi, means River.

Hope this brings a moment of peace to everyone affected by COVID in India and around the world. Our Best Wishes are with every one of them.
