Prevention is better than cure in all senses, when it comes to cancer. The most effective method of preventing cancer is by steering clear of unhealthy lifestyle habits, which put you at a higher risk. The second is timely Cancer screening, which helps in detecting cancer even before the symptoms start to affect normal life. Cancer test is also vital as most cancers detected early have better prognosis and recovery.

⭐Gingivitis and Periodontal Disease (Gum Disease) 🦷🩸
Periodontitis, also generally called gum disease or periodontal disease, begins with bacterial growth in your mouth and may end -- if not properly treated -- with tooth loss due to destruction of the tissue that surrounds your teeth.
➡What's the Difference Between Gingivitis and Periodontitis?
Gingivitis (gum inflammation) usually happens before periodontitis (gum disease). But not all gingivitis leads to periodontitis. Most people get gingivitis at some point in their lives, and its mild symptoms make it easy to ignore. But without treatment, it can turn into bigger problems for your mouth. The good news is that you can prevent or even reverse it by simply brushing your teeth, flossing, and having regular dental cleanings and checkups.
In the early stage of gingivitis, bacteria in plaque build up, causing the gums to become inflamed and to easily bleed during tooth brushing. Although the gums may be irritated, the teeth are still firmly planted in their sockets. No irreversible bone or other tissue damage has occurred at this stage.
➡How Can Gum Disease Be Prevented?
Gingivitis can be reversed and gum disease can be kept from getting worse in nearly all cases when proper plaque control is practiced. Proper plaque control consists of professional cleanings at least twice a year and daily brushing and flossing.
➡Brush your teeth twice a day. Use a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste. Replace your toothbrush every 3 months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed. Old, worn-out ones won't clean teeth as well. Brushing gets rid of plaque on the surfaces of the teeth that can be reached.
➡Rinse your mouth. Antibacterial mouthwash not only prevents gingivitis, it fights bad bacteria too.
➡Other health and lifestyle changes can cut the risk of gum disease, lessen how severe it is, and slow how fast it develops. They include:
⭐Stop smoking.
⭐Reduce stress.
⭐Maintain a balanced diet.
⭐Avoid clenching and grinding your teeth.
Here's a clear idea of the 4 stages of gum disease that might help you spot it before it gets worse:
1: Gingivitis
The first stage of gum disease is Gingivitis or gums inflammation, without loss of bone. While in the absence of good oral hygiene, nearly all people will develop gingivitis, while only 10 to 15 percent of them will develop more advanced stages of the disease.
Stage 2: Initial Periodontitis
With this stage, gingivitis advances into the deeper periodontal structures — the tissues that connect the teeth to the bone resulting in early or initial bone loss. About 10 percent of the population develops full-blown periodontitis that results in drastic bone loss.
Stage 3: Mild Periodontitis
The third stage of gum disease results in significant bone loss (20 to 50 per cent) of the teeth's root surfaces due to continued tissue and bone destruction. Periodontal disease is "cyclical"—it goes through cycles with activity bursts, followed by a period in which the body is attempting to recover. This is known as frustrated healing or chronic inflammation.
Stage 4: Progressive Periodontitis
There is significant bone loss (50 to 85 per cent) from the root of the tooth in the final stage of gum disease. This stage involves teeth looseness, shifting teeth, red, swollen and painful gums, often forming an abscess. The end result — eating and even smiling is hard and painful, and you may lose most of your teeth.
However, it's important for you to know that all of this is preventable with regular oral hygiene and routine oral cleaning at the dental clinic.

My Story
I started my journey as a dental student back in 2003, where my dream to become a doctor was finally taking a shape. I graduated from Jiwaji University in 2007 and the very next day I was working in a private dental clinic nearby. I have always dreamt of practising since I joined dentistry. Work routine is something I like and always value. I am a mother of a pretty daughter who keeps my kid alive inside me. :)
Since my graduation, I have been taking up multiple courses on various treatment modules practised in dentistry . I have been attending seminars for Continued Dental Education. I have tried to apply best of my knowledge, always to my patients with best intentions, and I believe that a patient and doctor relation is based solely on trust and I try to maintain it with gratitude and best service.
I have been conducting several Dental Awareness Programmes as I believe people neglect their oral health just too much just because of the fear from a dentist. I like conducting “awareness camps” and “oral health checkups” for underprivileged children and school children.
I always look forward to new opportunities and ways to keep improving myself. I am no perfect but I try to commit as less mistakes personally and professionally as possible.
