The brachial plexus is a network of nerves that controls the muscles of the shoulder, arm, and hand. These injuries can happen when there is excessive stretching or tearing of the nerves in the brachial plexus during the birthing process.

The two common types are:

🧿 Erb's Palsy:

🏅Typically, it involves injury to the upper brachial plexus nerves (C5 and C6 nerve roots).
🏅Often results from excessive stretching of the neck and shoulder during childbirth, such as when the baby's head is pulled to the side during a difficult delivery.
🏅Presents with weakness or paralysis of the shoulder, arm, and hand on the affected side.
🏅Characterized by the "waiter's tip" position, with the arm internally rotated, the elbow extended, and the wrist flexed.

🧿 Klumpke's Palsy:

🏅Involves injury to the lower brachial plexus nerves (C8 and T1 nerve roots).
🏅Less common than Erb's palsy, often occurring due to excessive upward traction on the arm during childbirth.
🏅Results in weakness or paralysis of the hand and forearm on the affected side.
🏅May present with associated Horner's syndrome, characterized by ptosis, miosis, and anhidrosis on one side of the face.

It is a frightening experience for parents when a child is born is born with Brachial Plexus / Erb’s palsy. The baby’s arm hangs limply from the shoulder, with flexion (bending) caused by muscle weakness in the wrist and fingers.

Brachial plexus palsy is weakness or paralysis in parts of the arm as a result of significant injury to the brachial plexus, which can happen during childbirth.

One of the biggest challenges in children with cerebral palsy or any genetic disorder or neurological conditions is Rib Cage Misalignment.

Which in turn causes Thoracoabdominal dysfunction.

This causes:

1) loss of respiratory function like hyperventilation, instability and respiratory irregularity, frequent sighing and breathing patterns predominantly apical instead of diaphragmatic breathing effort and also anxiety, dizziness, and fatigue.
