Company Description
Praxis Inc. is a design practice based in Bengaluru that specializes in innovative architectural, master planning, and interior design services. Our goal is to create experiences that engage, educate, and excite our clients. We take a holistic approach to design, considering sustainability, cultural sensitivity, and incorporating local nuances into our projects.

Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for an experienced Architect & Interior designer. They will be responsible for design, project coordination, and team management. They will work on-site at our office in Koramangala, Bengaluru, collaborating with our team to create innovative and sustainable designs.

Qualifications
·        Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited institute
·        2 years of professional work experience preferred
·        Strong interest in working on interior design projects
·        Strong conceptual design skills
·        Experience in project coordination, vendor management, client interactions
·        Proficiency in software (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape, Photoshop, MS Office suite)
·        Good communication and collaboration skills
·        A keen eye for detail and creativity
·        Prior experience in team management is a plus

Buildings and neighbourhoods are in constant flux. Homes are constantly modified or demolished to be built again. Most times debris from these sites go into landfills. This project attempts to reuse large parts of the existing structure and integrate it into the clients program, thus re-using existing foundations, walls , slabs , beams and columns … and what happens to the parts of the walls that are demolished ? Build the new parts with the demolished rubble ! We’re excited to hit ground on this one and see it through as intended !

The double-height living areas open out towards the East , illuminated by the screen filtered light. The family spaces at the upper levels look into this volume via strategically placed apertures in the Danpalon screens.

Wrapping up 2021 .

This home for two families consists of two ‘ duplex’ homes
over four floors. Located in a densely populated residential
neighbourhood of Hyderabad, this home addresses all the requirements of the two families.

Owing to the narrow road , the datum line of the building is raised up by a floor – making the ground floor a parking space hosting an entrance lobby and ancillary facilities. This became the public face of the building , while the residences were planned above the ground floor making them private from the street level.

Located in an urban – dense neighbourhood of Hyderabad, the 2400 sqft site is accessed by a 20ft road with residential buildings around. The brief was to maximize the space and accommodate a joint family of 9 members spread across 4 floors.

Two duplexes are planned as private residences for the two brothers and their families. Owing to the narrow road leading to the site , the datum line of the building is raised up by a floor – making the ground floor a parking space hosting an entrance lobby and ancillary facilities. This became the public face of the building, while the residences were planned above the ground floor making them private from the street level. The whole family gathers together for meals , hence the lower duplex houses a kitchen with a dining room connected to a formal living area opening out into a
balcony towards the East. The parents master suite is designed on this level with a lounge planned outside -tucked away from the main living area. A staircase is designed connecting the lower level of this duplex to the upper level – housing the Master bedroom with an en suite and walk-in. The kids room is planned on this floor with family lounge spaces overlooking the formal living areas The upper duplex has a similar program distribution with the formal living area in the lower level connected to a media room and a dining area designed as an open floor plan. The guest bedroom is located on this floor while the upper level houses the master bedroom suite and the kids bedroom.

The living rooms are designed as double height volumes that open out towards the East , with a lot of natural light filtering in. The family areas in the upper levels of the house look into the double height volume and seamlessly tie the spaces together. A movable wooden screen is designed on the Eastern façade acting as veil between the street and the floor to ceiling glazing designed for the interior spaces. This screen protects the house from the harsh summers of Hyderabad, reducing the dependency on air conditioning while providing privacy to it’s residents from the densely spaced buildings in the neighbourhood.

The façade is clad in Tandur stone – that is locally sourced providing an additional layer of protection from the climate. The Northern façade is punctured with glazing forming a dynamic backdrop for the staircase and the lift lobby. The tandur stone compliments the wooden screens that form an iconic facade – both dynamic and a part of the urban fabric The architecture of the building defines the interiors of the space with clean lines and large volumes while the use of natural and local materials inform the finishes of the shell. To keep the spaces bright and airy , a colourful terrazzo flooring executed by Bharat floorings ties the whole residence together. This flooring is complimented with cement textures on double height walls tied together with a
seamless wooden ceiling.

A semi transparent danpalon screen is used to clad the family areas on the upper floors allowing the light from the double height volumes to filter through the spaces while still maintaining privacy for the bedrooms. The finishes are kept monochrome while the art , furniture and décor is designed to provide both the duplexes with a unique identity, reflecting the lifestyle of the owners.
