Excimer Laser Coronary Aterectomy(ELCA)has become one of the essential atherectomy tools offering unique advantages over other atherectomy devices. In the modern era, ELCA is commonly used for patients with in-stent restenosis, stent under expansion, balloon uncrossable lesions and chronic total occlusions. Technical success rates are reported to be >80% in most situations while procedural complication rates such as vessel dissection and perforation among others are reported to average 9% over the past few years with improvement over time.

Over the last few years , technology in medical device has had its improved impact on device conceptualisation and development towards impacting not only on better patient outcomes but also to provide more recourses to a physicians’s armoury to wipe out any hindrance in saving a patient’s life.
Excimer Laser Coronary Atherectomy has been one such technology . Its been one and half years post its launch and 150+cases done till now across India.
The wide versatility of its Indications and with an even spread of usage across the country, it demanded a platform to discuss, review , analyse and learn from the cases which has been done .
Today we had the opportunity to conduct the first ever Laser Atherectomy Conclave in Mumbai . It was attended by 70 odd selected Interventional cardiologists from across India who are either using laser already or aspire to have such technologies sooner or later in their centre.
We had excellent discussions and learnings and everyone who attended were extremely gratified with what they witnessed and learned.
