As social workers, we witness daily the adverse affects of social and economic injustice and inequality on individuals, groups and communities. Often, as social advocates, we become professionally and personally fractured, as we struggle to meet the needs of the people we serve, within the context of a larger social and political environment that conveys increasing apathy, dismissiveness, and even
hostility towards both the social advocacy work we do, and the very real struggles our clients face. Now, more than ever, we must come together as a profession, and commit ourselves to supporting and enabling social structures and systems that empower socially and economically marginalized populations. We must work to promote causes that positively address the root causes of oppression and inequality. We must be willing to commit ourselves, wholeheartedly, and with conviction to work together with each other, with people who need social support services, and with others who share our objectives and aspirations to create a socially just and fair world. The time is now. While this group was created to bring together social workers from all walks of life, and from all corners of the profession, for the purposes of networking and advocacy, it is by no means exclusive to social workers. This forum is open to all progressive, compassionate and forward thinking individuals and groups who work diligently to make a difference in the lives of struggling individuals, groups and communities and who strive to promote the values of unity,equality, compassion, acceptance, appreciation of diversity and strengthening recognition of the importance of human relationships.
