India’s COVID-19 Vaccine May Soon be Available
Using social media Web sites is among the most common activity of today's children and adolescents. Any Web site that allows social interaction is considered a social media site, including social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter,WhatsApp ; gaming sites and virtual worlds such as Club Penguin, Second Life, and the Sims; video sites such as YouTube; and blogs. Such sites offer today's youth a portal for entertainment and communication and have grown exponentially in recent years. For this reason, it is important that parents become aware of the nature of social media sites, given that not all of them are healthy environments for children and adolescents.
So pediatricians can help families understand these sites and to encourage healthy use and urge parents to monitor for potential problems with cyberbullying, “Facebook depression,” sexting, and exposure to inappropriate content.
PENTAXIM in short supply... Then pentaxim will be unavailable... Then acellular DPT is not available. The same is true for the other vaccine produced by GSK.. INFANRIX....!!!!
I was shocked when i personally enquired the studies and found these two component pertussis vaccine is banned in the year 1997 in USA, as per studies every pertussis vaccine must contain 3 to 5 components. now in US they are using 5 component pentavalent(PENTACELL) pertussis vaccine but still there are thousands of outbreaks, in india we use only 2 component pertussis vaccine (pentaxim & infanrix) and this costing very high. How a banned vaccine can be marketed in india, what the hell are the government and the drug controllers are doing? how they can allow these type of vaccines to be marketed in india? Who will be responsible if there is an epidemic outbreaks ? Sanofi ? GSK?
Patients ask us for painless, feverless vaccine, we doctors also saying this stupid vaccine as pain and feverless vaccine !!!! Hereafter i will use DTwP (pentavac pfs, comvac 5) as it has high immunogenecity and WHO standard..

Updated Vaccination Schedule for Children
This year there is an updated vaccination schedule for children aged 6 months through 8 years. Children require 2 doses of influenza vaccine (administered at least 4 weeks apart) during their first season of vaccination. Children who received the seasonal (trivalent) influenza vaccine before the 2010-2011 season, but did not receive a vaccine with the 2009(H1N1) antigen, are also recommended to receive 2 doses this season. This is because they would not have previously received the 2009(H1N1) antigen. All other children can receive 1 dose of influenza vaccine.
The baby safe at birth is safe for ever.....so kindly make it a rule , that each delivery to be attended by at least two paediatricians .....to take care of the baby in emergency ....

Today is The world meningitis day(April 24),join hands to increase the awareness
A Vaccines available to prevent meningitis
The following vaccines have been developed to prevent the three major causes of bacterial meningitis:
Meningococcal vaccines
Polysaccharide-only vaccines: These are for use in older children, adolescents and adults for control of outbreaks or in situations of increased risk (military recruits, university students, travelers). They are:Combined groups A and C vaccineCombined groups A-C-Y-W135 vaccineConjugated vaccines: These are for use in the routine immunisation of infants, children, and adolescents. They are:Conjugate group C vaccineConjugate groups A-C-Y-W135 vaccineA conjugate group A vaccine for use in Africa is being developed by the Meningitis Vaccine Project. This vaccine has the ability to reduce and control epidemic meningococcal meningitis in the Sub-Saharan meningitis belt.Vaccines against group B meningococci are not yet available. Some vaccines have been developed against specific strains of serogroup B and used in Cuba, Norway, and New Zealand. However these vaccines do not protect against all strains of serogroup B meningococci and are therefore not suitable for routine use.A new vaccine against serogroup B meningococci containing proteins common to strains of serogroup B is currently being developed. When it becomes available it will mean that vaccines will be available for all major causes of bacterial meningitis.
Pneumococcal vaccines
Polysaccharide-only vaccine: These are for routine use in those over 65 years of age and in those over five years of age with underlying medical conditions making them at increased risk of invasive pneumococcal disease (e.g. sickle cell disease, dysfunction or absence of spleen, chronic heart disease, chronic lung disease, cirrhosis, alcoholism, HIV infection).A combined polysaccharide vaccine against the 23 most common serotypes causing invasive pneumococcal disease in those over the age of five years is also available.Conjugated vaccines: The first approved conjugated pneumococcal vaccine against the seven most common serotypes causing disease in children under five years of age has been widely used in USA, Canada, and more recently in UK, Australia, and elsewhere. Newer conjugated vaccines with 10 and 13 serotypes are now available. These are being used in industrialised countries and are also being evaluated for use in developing countries where different serotypes are required.
Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib vaccine)
Polysaccharide-only vaccine: The first Hib vaccine was a polysaccharide-only vaccine. Although it provided protection in children two to five years of age, it was not effective in infants less than 18 months of age.Conjugated vaccines: have proven to be highly effective in preventing invasive Hib disease and are recommended for routine use in all infants.
