Bhungas are traditional houses unique to the Kutch region in Gujarat. The houses are circular and square walled with thatched roof. Bhungas are known for it's structural stability in earthquakes and for being climate responsive.
It also protects against sandstorms and cyclonic winds.
It is constructed using locally available materials like clay, bamboo, timber, etc. Structurally the roof is placed on two thick wooden posts placed across the circular walls. These two posts bear the weight of the roof. Wooden framed windows are set at a lower level for cross ventilation. The low hanging roofs cover the walls against direct sunlight and add to the insulation from the environment. The thatched roof is built on top of the walls resting on a spiral frame forming a cone.

HODKA RANN STAY.
We have set up a Mud Huts village resort in Hodka village, which is about 20 km (en route) from the Great Rann of Kutch or White/Salt Desert. The resort is spaciously spread out with seven luxury Mud Huts and a dining area in a circular formation. In the centre, there’s a wide bonfire area with Kutch mud-work sitting around it -- it is just as much an attraction as our Traditional Mud Huts. The front of the bonfire area has enough space for cultural activities like folk-music and dancing that guests can revel in. Each Room is nicely laid out and has a large attached bathroom that guests would love. We have built the Rooms with enough open space in the front and sides, allowing for much-needed privacy. Our special-cooked food featuring mouth-watering traditional Kutchi cuisine prepared with love by our staff is sure to delight our guests’ taste buds. What’s more? At display would be our world-renowned crafts -- live demos of traditional leather work, master craftswomen doing Kutchi embroideries with their intricate stiches and needlework, and our beautiful mud-work. Of course, a village tour providing the guests a glimpse of our rural life and artisanal legacy will be another feature.
