SSVAD in collaboration with KCC and Gallery Rasa is excited to announce that the exhibition - 'Scenes of Santiniketan & Benodebehari's Handscrolls', curated by Prof. R Siva Kumar will be travelling to Santiniketan!

The exhibition will put on display -Scenes from Santiniketan-the earliest and longest handscroll ever painted by Benodebehari Mukherjee, depicting the Santiniketan landscape of the 1920s in a panoramic view. Besides this recently discovered 44.6 feet-long original scroll, the exhibition would further feature reproductions of all other handscrolls and existing fragments, including one from the collection of Victoria & Albert Museum, London in an attempt to present a comprehensive understanding of Benodebehari Mukherjee's engagement with landscape as a means of self-expression and a record of the evolution of his inner self.

SSVAD is pleased to host 45 days residency program of three talented Karnataka-based Artists ,,
Thanks to artist N.S.Harsha,, .cavale and for their input and curation which has helped this program materialize!

Guyseika, an international artist from Paris, in residency at SSVAD from 3rd january till 15th march 2023 .
Guyseika began painting shortly after graduating from high school at the age of eighteen and moved to London the following year with the idea of finding a home for his artistic pursuits. There he worked, attended night classes, played music, painted and took photographs until he entered Central-St Martin’s School of Art in 1994. It was in London that Guy had his first exhibitions, first showing work about London nightlife, then expressionist works at the Alternative Art Galleries. He participated in a group intervention in a squatted area, painting on the walls using existing textures, and continued this project on the street. It was also in London, influenced by his grandmother’s Vietnam, that he began to study the East and to practice Taichi-chuan.
Through his travels, Guyseika is interested in means of production methods linked to particular biological regions. Handmade paper, vegetable colors, dyes, but also, given the urban setting in which he usually dwels, recovery and recycling, the important point being to enter in resonance with his environment and to adapt to the different possibilities that each moment offers. The idea is to integrate a broader artistic project of rediscovery of the ecosystems which accomodate us and of maximum autonomy in an industrialized and digitized world. Thus his productions vary according to the medias encountered. He intends to keep this freedom and not to lock himself into any pre-established formula, even if his original style is evident in his works. Influenced by the philosophy of the Bâuls of Bengal and the crazy sages of China and Tibet, he tries to develop a nomadic art, intuitive and profound, technologically light and close to the people...
