A women who has carved a niche for herself in a strongly patriarchal society and runs a chain of Educational Institutes in Amritsar. She caters to the educational needs of about a hundred villages of the Punjab’s border District and has become a hope of millions. She believes that Education is the only way to transform India and get rid of age old social vices. Dr. (Mrs.) Jeewan Jyoti Sidana, former Dean of the Faculty of Education, Guru Nanak Dev University, currently is the founder of Sidana Group of Institutions, Amritsar, Punjab established under the aegis of Sidana Educational and Welfare Society in the year 2009. Dr. Sidana’s journey is unique and fascinating. From Sidana Institutes to Sidana Healthcare with lots of competition, Her Dream, Her Vision and Her Impact for the middle class all over India in Education and Healthcare Arena is Phenomenal. Having the distinction among toppers of Punjab in her student career ,she got prestigious state level Scholarship. Completing her M.Sc.(Maths) M.Ed., she started her career as a Lecturer at renowned Khalsa College of Education, Amritsar. After marriage at the age of 21 her husband ,Mr. Mohinder Pal Sidana , motivated and encouraged her to pursue Ph.D which she completed in 2002. She has a long Teaching and Administrative experience and has received the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for outstanding achievements by National and International Compendium of New Delhi in 2005. She has received a Doctorate Degree in Education. Dr. Sidana has also been writing research papers in educational journals and has innumerable articles to her credit. She has been active in various Educational activities and has presented academic papers in international conferences and forums.

How will she channelize her exceptional academic expertise in the development of Sidana Group -

Sidana Group of Institutions is located in a rural and border belt of Amritsar district which was drug ridden and lacked educational awareness. This location was deliberately chosen since Sidana Institutes was planned as a people friendly project. We provide quality education coupled with modern infrastructure at a reasonable cost. The courses at Sidana Institutes are placement oriented and vocational in their true sense. The institute also provides placement to its own alumni as teachers, instructors and lecturers. Higher education in India suffers from several systemic deficiencies. As a result, it continues to provide employment to unemployable graduates despite emerging shortages of skilled manpower. The standards of academic research are low and declining. Other issues of Higher Education in India are the un-manageable affiliating system, inflexible academic structure, uneven capacity across various subjects, eroding autonomy of academic institutions, and the low level of public funding. To add to this other concerns relating to the dysfunctional regulatory environment, the accreditation system, absence of incentives for performing well, and the unjust public funding policies are not recognized as important. The significant gap between the education and industry therefore needs to be aligned with Industry needs and should be modified to needs based, requirement based and placement based with an emphasis on skill development.
AlongWith a dream to provide a better education system I have a desire to provide a better healthcare industry within the economic system that provides goods and services to treat patients with curative, preventive, rehabilitative, and palliative care. As I have seen this area where Rural communities have long struggled, especially during this Covid-19 Pandemic to maintain access to quality health care services, I decided to introduce a Hospital in Khiala Khurd Village of District Amritsar. This area is more likely to have to travel long distances to access healthcare services, particularly subspecialist services. This can be a significant burden in terms of travel, cost, and time away from the workplace. In addition, the lack of reliable transportation is a barrier to care. Rural residents often encounter barriers to healthcare that limit their ability to obtain the care they need. A variety of elements contribute to these problems in rural areas, including a declining population, economic stagnation, shortages of physicians and other health care professionals.
Sidana Multispeciality Hospital provide residents to conveniently and confidently access to many services such as primary care, behavioural health, emergency care, and public health services under one roof which is available and obtainable in a timely manner at very low cost under the observation of highly qualified healthcare professionals. Sidana Multispeciality Hospital offer a broad range of services and treat a wide spectrum of medical issues including mental health.

Woman though have proved to be more responsible, dynamic and compassionate but they need space and their share to show their visibility.
Sidana Institutes are being managed by group of educationists. So to provide quality education and placement of students is their top priority. Secondly, Dr. Sidana is a teacher first and therefore her criterion of running institutes is selection of the best possible faculty, because she believe there is no replacement of a good teacher. Third, she is approachable to each and every student and parent. Hence feedback regarding every aspect of the institute reaches her directly. No fine, No ragging, No harassment of any student is possible in this institute given the strict norms laid down by them. Being a mother and a female teacher, the security and honour of girls is her top priority.

We all want to work for the nation and make it a better place to live, but this starts from a small step. This small step begins with the welfare of your community. One such initiative was taken by Elizabeth Matthews Nongbri, belonging to a matrilineal tribal community. She is a social activist and entrepreneur. Elizabeth is the Executive member BJP Mahila Samiti, Meghalaya, and President Anglo Indian Wing, Akhil Bharatiya Christu Mahasabha, North East Region. Elizabeth was recently nominated as the Chairman Economic Cell by State President BJP Meghalaya Pradesh for 2020-2023.

Elizabeth is a self-made woman with grit, determination, perseverance, and the attitude of never giving up. This helped her in achieving her goals. She belongs to the Khasi Community from Meghalaya and has a mixed parentage of cultures (mother from Shillong and father a former Officer in the Royal Navy). She has strong linkages with both the Tribal & Anglo-Indian Communities. Elizabeth is married to a Colonel from the Assam Regt, now retired. The army background made her strong. She travels extensively between Shillong and Bangalore as she has residences at both places. During her 24 years as an Army wife, she lived in different parts of the country, gaining first-hand experience of various social problems faced by women in different communities, handling trauma, and looking after the welfare of soldiers' wives when their husbands were deployed in active operations.

After her husband's retirement, they transited to the civilian world. She felt difficulty in adjusting to the work culture of the civilian environment. In the Army environment people working in a systematic and disciplined manner. The work targets were achieved in specified timelines. However, in civilian society, it was just not as straightforward. There were problems in working in the political space too. The work environment in the political space is unique and requires a different kind of understanding. People had to be requested, cajoled, and convinced of the importance of timely completion of the task. Many were initially reluctant to put their shoulders to the wheel and would rather stand at the finish line, waiting for the cart to cross. However, there were also many competent and efficient persons who could quickly accomplish targets, once correctly guided. The civilian transition also exposed her to the pathetic conditions under which many communities live. The plight of these communities brought into sharp focus her Anglo Indian (AI) heritage and tribal identity. The Anglo Indian Community in the North East lacked faith in the Govt. Years of sustained neglect had made them immune to any initiatives aimed at improving their lives. They had lost their connection with the community, their sense of identity, and their pride in making something of their lives. The representatives elected by the people did not significantly contribute to the community's upliftment in the country and particularly so in the North East Region. The Anglo-India community in the North-Eastern part of the country has had no voice on the National Stage. This was Elizabeth's inspiration to be the voice of the voiceless and get them their rights. Elizabeth realized that both communities were neglected and had no access to any of the government's schemes for their welfare.

With time and work, she developed a vast network of like-minded persons with whom the exchange of ideas and experiences would take place. These professional and social networks helped her in many situations. Elizabeth organized a rally in support of CAA at Shillong on 07 Feb 20, despite a lot of resistance from local bodies. In 2019 during the Ayodhya verdict, she organized a rally in Shillong on 25 Aug 25, supporting the construction of Shri Ram Temple at Ayodhya. Approx 1,000 volunteers pledged support. It was the first such activity in a Christian State. Her family initially expressed concern and hesitation as the political space is so uncertain, but later became incredibly supportive.

As a social activist for the last five years, she has been intimately involved in various social and community development schemes in Meghalaya and at Bangalore. During the lockdown, when all travel was suspended, she organized COVID relief activities for many groups of needy persons. Elizabeth also coordinated Humanitarian Airlift on Air Asia Commercial flights, for migrant workers (86 persons) from the NE, unable to travel home, from Bangalore to Bagdogra & Guwahati in coordination with the Corporate Sector. There was a collection and distribution of rations from Govt/ Charitable Institutions to sections of needy people in different parts of Bangalore.

Recognition is an important issue raised by Elizabeth. The social workers are the unsung heroes who should be celebrated and recognized. This boosts the morale of the person and would result in creating role models for society. The tireless efforts have resulted in her receiving recognition in the following forms:
• Awarded by Nisha Foundation, N Delhi, for Excellence in Anglo Indian Community Welfare, Dec 19.
• Awarded International Award, Excellence in Social Service, Madrid, Spain, 27 Feb 20.
• Awarded ‘Certificate of Dedication’ from All India Institute of Public & Physical Health Services, for COVID related services with Bangalore Nagarika Samithi.

In the field of social service, achievement is only a relative term. In the endeavor to bring about socio-economic change in society, you can never consider your work as finished or an end state of achievement reached. There are always areas that require constant up-gradation and improvement. It is a continuous process that has no end. Elizabeth wants to be meaningfully occupied in the development of her communities. She is determined to make sustained progress in community development in collaboration with NGOs & civic authorities with initiatives like:
• Leverage large numbers of ex-servicemen in the NE in establishing sustainable projects.
• Development of skill development centers with Govt / Corporate assistance.
• Educational training for preparation of candidates for entry into Defense Academies.
• Ex*****on of projects under Atmanirbhar Bharat program. Development of SHG for organic farming, sustainable eco projects, and development of livelihood for rural areas.

Elizabeth believes that as long as you are honest and working for the community selflessly, there is nothing to fear. Disappointments, in the form of some outcomes not having lived up to your expectations, will always be there. These have to be taken in your stride. She is the epitome of self-belief and perseverance. These two traits, combined with dedication and hard work, can help overcome all odds. Believe in yourself, and you're halfway there. Elizabeth wants to lead by example for her daughters and be a role model for her community's young girls. The young and curious minds need a mentor.
