Call for Nominations: Neerja Bhanot Award

Nominations invited for Annual Neerja Bhanot Awards : Award : Rs. 1,50,000, Trophy, Citation. Nominations accepted round the year.

Criteria: For an Indian woman who was subjected to social injustice like dowry, desertion etc., faced the situation with guts and grit AND then helped other women in social distress.

Meeting all 3 criteria is a must. With the nomination, furnish documentary evidence, especially newspaper reports.

Anyone can send a nomination, including self-nominations on plain paper is okay. There is no fees of any sort.

The Trust does a thorough back-check of all applications.

Language: Hindi or English. In case of any other language, a translation in Hindi or English has to be also submitted.

Rama ji would never had an idea that this small girl will bring a lot of pride for the country and the world

A lot of gratitude to ji (Mother of Neerja) for delivering a brave soldier who remains First and Youngest Recipient Of Ashok Chakra 🇮🇳🇮🇳 for her selfless sacrifice for 389 passengers.

Her mother was apprehensive about her aviation career and asked her to run away if hijack happens and should leave the job but said "Mar jaoongi lekin 🏃 bhagoongi nahi"

Confronting her mother Neerja asked "Aap kaisi maa ho? Jo aisi baat karti ho? Apko toh hume bahadur banana chahiye.

She actually did what she said. She was the last one to leave but she left us forever.

Neerja Bhanot Institute launched today by Rahul Chauhan, Madhusudan Dwivedi, Neeraj Bhanot and Hari Bhanot. As Neeraj and Hari say "Through the Neerja Bhanot Pan Am Trust, we have been honouring persons living up to the three principles of Neerja - Do your duty, come what may; Never compromise on your self-respect and Fight against injustice. Now, we are looking at building up the younger generation with these principles ingrained in them through this Institute."

Neerja Bhanot Institute of Hospitality and Fashion launched

Chandigarh, January 28, 2019: The Neerja Bhanot Institute of Hospitality and Fashion was today launched in Chandigarh with the objective of providing Vocational Training to young aspirants desirous of making a career in the Aviation, Hospitality, Travel and other sectors. The Institute is a tribute to the fearless courage and devotion to duty of Ashok Chakra Awardee Neerja Bhanot - in 1986, the 23-year-old Pan Am flight attendant became an icon in the world of the Aviation Industry by giving up her own life while saving the lives of nearly 400 of her passengers. Neerja’s family members, Neeraj Bhanot and Hari Bhanot, are associated with the Institute to ensure that the values, morals and ethics of Neerja Bhanot are maintained by it.

In a press conference here today, Reena Rana Chauhan, Managing Director, said, “The Neerja Bhanot Institute aims at providing world class professional training for the youth of the nation who have the vision, drive and ambition to make the most of the career options and available opportunities. Backed by some of the most select, experienced and qualified staff and trainers, the Institute will ensure that the students are result-oriented and have a positive energy and frame of mind in whatever they set out to do and prove to be an asset for whichever company they work for. The Institute plans to have a nation-wide footprint in the coming years.”

Neerja Bhanot was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra by the Indian Government and honored by the United States of America and Pakistan as well. Her unprecedented and almost unbelievable act of courage sprang from the unshakable values Neerja had learnt from her family, which have been adopted as the “Triple Code of Honor” by the Neerja Bhanot Institute in honor of her indelible memory. According to Neeraj Bhanot, “these are ‘Do your duty come what may; Never compromise on your self-respect and fight injustice’. Imbibing these principles will immensely help the students in their personal as well their professional career and life,” he added.

“This will also help students in the placement process,” Reena Rana Chauhan pointed out. “Large companies would naturally prefer to employ students who come with mindset of dedication to duty and a high standard of values and ethics ingrained in them.”

The Institute also announced the Neerja Bhanot Scholarships for deserving students hailing from a humble background. The Neerja Bhanot Scholarships selection process shall be conducted in the month of February of every year starting from this year. The eligible candidates of Neerja Bhanot Scholarship shall be declared in the month of March.

Remembering and her valorous victory of humanity over terrorism

It was this day 26 January 1987 when Neerja's Mother Rama Bhanot ji received Ashok Chakra From the then president Giani Zail Singh on Republic day at Republic day Parade event.
Posthumously, she became the youngest, first and the only women recipient of India's highest peacetime award for bravery, the Ashok Chakra Award. Her life and heroism inspired a biopic in the form of Ram Madhvani's Neerja (2016). She saved 359 people among 379 and was shot while helping passengers escape from the emergency exits
Rama ji while receiving the award was teary-eyed n Giani Told her that she shouldn't cry because she's mother of such a brave girl who gave her life for so many passengers. It was these words which gave her a new lease of life because she was sad after her daughter left for a heavenly abode, and she loved her a lot like every mother does n then there's no looking back n she lived with pride all her life.
You May also read great citation on Ashok Chakra about Neerja. Even Indian government released stamps in her honor.
Not Everyone gets @ age of 23. And not everyone does What did by sacrificing her life for 359 unknown passengers of different nationalities. Coz for her they were all Humans and Not Americans, Pakistani, British, or Indians. And She was doing her duty, Come what may, even if its her death, for which she happily sacrificed her life, helping all the passengers to exit n shielding 3 children. Such were the standards of unmatchable standards of dedication commitment and humanity set by Neerja. Such were her principles imbibed onto her by her great parents ji And ji. Words like Bravery, Valor fail short to describe her unmatchable courage even today.
